Message from the Bishops on the Repose of the Metropolitan Blessing and peace and love and union in Christ, about all piety, and worship with loving joy, Philip, Bishop of Suzdal, Efrosim, Bishop of Murom and Ryazan, Geroontius, Bishop of Kolomna 2858, on the council and with the union of our elder brother Jonah, Archbishop of Veliky Novgorod and Pskov, also with the union of our brother Jonah, Bishop of Perm, and in Christ to our brother Gennady, Bishop of Tver. About this, we write to you, our brother, giving notice that God has called our lord and father Jonah, Metropolitan of Kyiv and All Rus', to come to him; and our lord, the great prince Vasily Vasilyevich, recognized the weakness of his father, the metropolitan, and called us his pilgrims to him, and with his father and the metropolitan they talked about it, that the Lord God would call him to himself, and he would bless someone in his place, to be a metropolitan in that holy Russian metropolis. And our lord and father Jonah, Metropolitan of Kiev and All Rus', having judged according to the divine and sacred rules and having discussed 2859 with his son with the Grand Duke Vasily Vasilyevich, and with us with his pilgrims, he chose and blessed for that great degree of sanctification to the house of the Most Pure Mother of God and to the tomb of the holy great wonderworker Peter Metropolitan, on that the most holy Russian metropolis, our lord and brother the elder Theodosius, apxbishop of Rostov 2860 in his place, and placed his blessed letter in his name in the holy great cathedral church of the Most Pure Mother of God, with his signature and seal, on the throne. And from that letter and list we sent you to our brother, and we are writing about this to you to our brother, so that the Lord God with His great mercy would accomplish this great work of God, so that that holy cathedral church would not be a widow without God’s saint, without a shepherd. And you, our brother, for that great work of God, would be in the house of the Most Pure Mother of God and the holy wonderworker Peter, in the fatherland of our lord Grand Duke Vasily Vasilyevich, in Moscow, for the installation of our lord and brother, the eldest Theodosius, Archbishop of Rostov, to that great degree of holiness, metropolitan for all Russia.
