Saint Aristobulus was one of the seventy Apostles, born in Cyprus 1956. He was the brother of Saint Barnabas the Apostle, also one of the seventy. After the Ascension of the Lord, he preached together with the Apostle Paul, the teacher of the universe, passing through different countries. The Apostle Paul mentions him in his letter to the Romans, where he says: “Greet the faithful from the house of Aristobulus” (Rom. 16:10), i.e. from the house or family of Aristobulus, since some of the relatives of Aristobulus and Barnabas then lived in Rome. When Paul wrote his letter to the Romans, Aristobulus was with Paul at that time, which is why Paul wrote in the letter a greeting to the relatives of Aristobulus from himself and from Aristobulus himself. When Saint Paul appointed many bishops, sending them to preach the word of truth throughout all cities and countries, then he installed Aristobulus as a bishop and sent him to preach in Britain 1957, to unbelieving and cruel people 1958. Here Aristobulus worked a lot in the gospel of Christ and suffered a lot from these cruel people: sometimes he was beaten without mercy, sometimes he was dragged through the streets, mocked at him. In a word, he accepted many insults and tortures from these people until he enlightened them with the grace of Christ and taught them faith in Christ. Then the saint baptized them, built a church for them, ordained elders and deacons, and died there in 1959. Cyprus is an island in the northeastern part of the Mediterranean Sea. By Britain we should mean the Sicilian Islands and Cornwallis. The inhabitants of Britain were the Celts - stern, warlike people. Some believe that this saint Aristobulus was the father of the holy Apostles James and John and bore the nickname “Zebedee”; but this is hardly correct. Most likely, this saint Aristobulus came from Cyprus and had Barnabas as his brother; and he was different from the father of James and John, who was called Zebedee (this was not his nickname, but his real name).
