In everything good that we have done, the soul should attribute the reasons for success in the matter to the Lord, without at all thinking that it will succeed in anything good by its own strength. For such a disposition usually produces humility in us. And humility is the treasure keeper of virtues. Here, from me, as someone else would say, are the seeds of the teaching of virtue! You, having accepted them, from here grow for me abundant fruit and fulfill the word of wisdom, which commands “to give wine to the wise, so that they may be the wisest” (Proverbs 9:9).
