Mikhail Nikolaevich Skaballanovich (1871–1931) - an outstanding Orthodox theologian, researcher and popularizer of liturgics (the science of worship) and exegesis (interpretation of Holy Scripture), teacher at the Kyiv Theological Academy. During the Soviet years, he taught at Kiev University and worked at the Ethnographic Commission of the Academy of Sciences of the Ukrainian SSR. He died in exile in Arkhangelsk. In his master's thesis (1905), he interprets the first chapter of the prophet Ezekiel, one of the most mysterious and mystical texts of the Bible. The extensive work “Explanatory Typikon” reveals the history and meaning of the liturgical regulations of the Orthodox Church.
