2 Thessalonians 2:1–2. And about the coming of our Lord, that you were worried about and our congregation of believers, to Him, - [we ask you] do not soon hesitate * from your mind [mind], due to false information diligently communicated to you - and don’t... be embarrassed in spirit, that is, false visions that they show you, or cunning and seductive words that they speak to you, and even false not written by us at all, but as if sent through [from] us. 2 Sol.2:3. So, let no one... deceive you... and do not think that the day of our Lord has already come; because, if first... he doesn’t come, or one of his prophets or many of his apostles, who are about to appear before that apostate - but until the end of the prophets and his apostles, who will be sent before him, follows - and after them he himself will come apostate and the man of sin will be revealed, the son of destruction, - and then there will be the coming (of the Lord). He called him an apostate in order to show that as a rebel he fell away and changed when he wanted and because he wanted. He called him a man of sin in order to indicate that through man (as a man) he will come, and not in the form of (only) a man, for he imitates the coming of our Lord - he will come as a man not from the pagans, but from the people (Israel) themselves and from the tribe of Judah - not in uncircumcision, but in circumcision, so that, under the pretext of his origin and circumcision, he will take captive the people (Israel) who are waiting for him coming in exactly this form. In addition, he called him the son of destruction, calling the man himself the son of destruction, that is, the son of the destroyer devil. 2 Sol.2:4. Which enemy is there? that is, the highest and the lowest and the Lord of all, - who, he says, exalts himself, called God or revered. He himself worships God (the true one) in order to attract those who crucified them to himself, and he blasphemes and humiliates everything that is called (only) God or is worshiped, so that thereby he can captivate the minds of true worshipers. Thus he will appear and ascend in order to “sit” inside and precisely in the church of God. He does not reject any society from heretical sects to another, so that they do not recognize him, but with contempt he rejects all (false) cults, so that he can take the church captive. That is why he will ascend into the very church of God to sit and show himself that he is, as it were, God. How will he show that there is a true God? In addition to the glory and honor with which he will be invested, he will show this even more through the hostility that he will wage against heretical sects. Since he will not incline to any heresy, then, thanks to his (feigned) love for the children of the Church, he will make them think that he loves them as true (children of the Church), and he will come to their church and sit down, as in the church of truth, in order to show that he is God. He denounces hypocrisy in pretense (feigned) and puts on the guise of truth in deceit (insidiously). He will pretend so skillfully that he will captivate the people through carnal objects and will rule the church under the guise of truth. 2 Sol.2:5. “Don’t you remember,” he says, “that when... I was with you,... I told... you? From this you can see that long before that the Thessalonians had been taught what was said in these words. 2 Sol.2:6. Now,” he says, “you yourself know what helps it open since the apostleship has prevailed and after it the teaching will spread until the day on which the Son will be revealed in due time. 2 Thessalonians 2:7–8. For the mystery of iniquity is already began to act - the teaching had not yet entered (in everyone) and the apostleship, even without stopping until now, had already flourished and gained strength. However, until the one who is now holding back... withdraws from the environment, the wicked will not reveal himself. How our Lord hastened with His coming to the judgment of all nations, since hitherto the gospel had not been preached to the nations (to all). But the first cult has not yet ended, when the church itself stands, sacrifices are still being made and circumcision is spreading, and the church has not yet been built, for the Apostles themselves went to the church to pray (Acts 2:46, 3:1, 5:20, 21:26, 22:17), although, gathering for supper, they broke bread (Acts 2:46, 20:7). If in this way the church with its services stood in full decoration, then the church, as it were, had not yet begun (was not built), although it had been founded; for when that house is abolished and its sacrifices come to an end, then the preaching of the Gospel will begin. So, if the Gospel has not come, because the old ministry continues to this day; then how, before the new ministry has been preached and the old one has not yet ceased, will He be revealed for reward to those who did not obey (the word of the Gospel), when He had not yet been preached to them? And what then will the words mean: “Go to all the people and teach” (Matthew 28:19–20), or: “first... will be preached,” that is, before the revelation of the Antichrist, the gospel will be proclaimed “throughout the whole world” (Mark 13:10, Matt. 24:14)? So, until the ancient worship, which now holds, is abolished, through the already prepared destruction of the city (Jerusalem), and until the apostleship, which now preaches, is maintained, and after it spreads teaching, - until then the day of the Lord will not come, about which those lying seducers preach to you that it is already coming. But just as the time of the Old (Testament) existed, and prophecy did not pass away, neither the fire, nor the sacrifice, nor the horn of anointing, until Christ came: so nothing can stop the time of preaching the New (Testament), until the apostleship fulfills the calling given to him: “Go to all the people.” am" (Matthew 28:19), and the teaching (of Christ) will not spread, and his time will not end, and people will not be perfected through the preaching of the Apostles and through the teaching of the priests: - only then, finally, is the Apostate allowed to come to test the dignity of people. But his temptations do not last very long, since immediately after him our Lord will be revealed, so that, thanks to his wonders and signs and skillful wiles, the earth will not be deprived of the chosen ones and the righteous: for He Himself 2 Sol.2:8. Our Lord will destroy And besides, him (the apostate) 2 Sol.2:9. the coming is with all power and signs x When the Apostle says that he will come with all power and signs, then no one should think that there are such illusory and deceptive signs that he could not perform, like the Egyptian magicians (Ex. 7:11), - even more than they, he will show signs. 2 Sol.2:10. And in every kind of seduction of untruth he will come to destroy - not the believers, since they will be warned by the benefactor who has to come to them, but those who did not accept the word of truth, that is, the crucifiers, because they did not want to accept the Gospel, which wins the lost. 2 Sol.2:11. Therefore,” he says, “God will send them... lying power, so that they will believe the deception, that is, God will allow the one they are expecting to come. Since they did not believe the truth in order to be saved, they believe deception in order to perish. Those who crucify do not perish at His coming in order to prevent Him from coming, for before His coming they were subjected to destruction because they blasphemed and reviled Him who came to save the world. So, they will be condemned and cursed because they crucified one and accepted the other. And the wicked man is sent to them not to force them to believe in him, but so that they will be destroyed if they voluntarily sympathize with him and believe in him. Then, they are condemned for the guilt that they abandoned true power (a true miracle) and became adherents of false signs: they abandoned Him about whose coming all the prophets testify, and will quickly turn to Him, about whom neither Moses mentioned anywhere nor any prophet wrote (2 Thess. 2:12). 2 Sol.2:13. We must thank God... always about you... who... chose for salvation life, as evidenced by which you put on in the waters of baptism, and faith in truth [true], 2 Sol.2:14. In which He called you through our Gospel into the assembly of His glory, - understand the very last meeting, in which the righteous will gather from all parts of the world on the day of our Lord Jesus Christ. 2 Sol.2:15. So stand firm and hold on when we were with you, or through a message... our e, when we wrote to you in absence. 2 Sol.2:16. Our Lord Jesus Christ Himself and God our Father, who loved us and gave us eternal consolation, that is, instead of temporary sacrifices, which were given to the former (ancient generations) and have passed away. Instead of sacrifices, he will give us consolation in eternal service: for although the first coming abolished the previous sacrifices, our sacrifice, which is our very consolation, will not cease even in the second coming, but this coming itself will make it even more abundant than it is (now).
