2 Thessalonians

After the Thessalonians received the First Epistle and read among the people, as they were commanded (1 Thessalonians 5:27), the idle zealots of vain things, instead of working and eating according to the commandment given to them (2 Thessalonians 3:10), began to deceive and tempt their neighbors even more, so that those who were cut off from apostasy (in the faith) could be taken captive in various cunning ways and misled. The devil tempted the Thessalonians with persecutions, which he inflicted on them once or twice. And since they refused to deny Christ, Satan made those very idle lovers preachers of the coming of the Lord, so that through the coming, which, according to their preaching, was supposed to come immediately, they would confuse and deviate those expecting such an (immediate) coming (of the Lord), that is, distract and deviate from the true coming that they expected. These false teachers and their companions, who were possessed by Satan, also invented false visions and seduced the common people with false speeches. They even wrote messages in the name of the Apostle and read them before them, in order to use all sorts of evil tricks to distract them, at least from the true faith in the coming of our Lord, when they were unable to divert them from the Lord Himself. However, some of them had this weakness from the very beginning, which is why in his First Epistle he admonished them, saying: there is no need to write to you about years and times (1 Thess. 5:1).
