And Moses gathered together all the congregation of the children of Israel, and said unto them, This is what the Lord commanded them to do: Exodus 35:2. six days you shall do work, and the seventh day shall be holy to you, a Sabbath of rest for the Lord: whoever does work on it shall be put to death; Exodus 35:3. You shall not light fire in all your dwellings on the Sabbath day. [I am the Lord.] The repetition of the law of the Sabbath rest before the start of work on the construction of the tabernacle was intended to warn the people so that, out of excessive zeal in the construction of the sanctuary, they would not forget or violate one of the most important regulations, which is the guarantee of their covenant with the Lord (cf. Ex. 31:13, etc.). The new clarification of the Sabbath law prohibits “lighting a fire on the Sabbath day,” i.e. prepare food. Exodus 35:4. And Moses said to all the congregation of the children of Israel, This is what the Lord commanded: Exodus 35:5. make an offering of yourselves to the Lord: let each one bring an offering to the Lord according to his diligence, gold, silver, copper, Exodus 35:6. blue, purple, and scarlet wool, and fine linen, and goats' hair, Exodus 35:7. rams' skins were red, and skins were blue, and shittim wood, Exodus 35:8. and oil for the lamp, and spices for the anointing oil and incense, Exodus 35:9. onyx stone and set stones for the ephod and breastplate. Chapter 27 What is superfluous in this case is the indication that the pillars of the outer courtyard were strengthened with ropes. Exodus 35:19. the garments of office for the service of the sanctuary, and the sacred garments for Aaron the priest, and the garments for his sons for the sacred rites. Ex.35:20. And all the congregation of the children of Israel went from Moses. Exodus 35:21. And all whose hearts were drawn to it, and all whose spirit was disposed, came and brought offerings to the Lord for the building of the tabernacle of meeting and for all its needs and for [all] the sacred garments; Exodus 35:22. and husbands and wives came, and everyone, according to the disposition of their hearts, brought rings, earrings, rings and pendants, all kinds of gold things, everyone who just wanted to bring gold to the Lord; Exodus 35:23. and every one that had blue, purple, and scarlet, fine linen, and goats' hair, red skins of rams, and blue skins, brought them; Exodus 35:24. and everyone who donated silver or copper brought it as a gift to the Lord; and everyone who had shittim wood brought it for every need for the tabernacle; Ex.35:25. and all the women, wise in heart, spun with their own hands and brought blue, purple, and scarlet yarn and fine linen; Ex.35:26. and all the women whose hearts attracted them and who knew how to spin spun goat's hair; Exodus 35:27. And the princes brought onyx stones and set stones for the ephod and the breastplate, Exodus 35:28. also incense and oil for the lamp and for the composition of anointing oil and for incense; Exodus 35:29. and all the husbands and wives of the children of Israel, whose hearts were drawn to do every work that the Lord commanded through Moses to be done, brought a voluntary gift to the Lord. The zeal of the people can be judged by the fact that the materials brought were more than they should have been, and Moses had to stop the influx of donations (Exodus 36:5–6). The golden things could have been the same ones that the Jews took from the Egyptians (see 19-20 v. 3 ch.). Ex.35:30. And Moses said to the children of Israel, Behold, the Lord hath appointed Bezalel the son of Uriah, the son of Hur, of the tribe of Judah, Ex.35:31. and filled him with the Spirit of God, with wisdom, understanding, knowledge and all skill, Ex.35:32. to make elaborate fabrics, to work from gold, silver and copper, Ex.35:33. and cut stones for setting, and carve wood, and do all kinds of artistic work; Ex.35:34. and he put the ability to teach others into his heart, both him and Aholiab the son of Ahisamach, of the tribe of Dan; See interpretation. 2–6 tbsp. Chapter 31 Ex.35:35. he filled their hearts with wisdom to do all the work [for the sanctuary] of the carver and the skilled weaver, and the embroiderer of blue, purple, scarlet and fine linen, and the weavers who do all the work and make the skilled cloth. The work of a carver is carving metal, wood and stones (Exodus 35:33). The job of a skilled weaver is to work with woven images. With this work the veil of the Holy of Holies, the ephod, and the first curtains of the tabernacle were made. The work of weavers is the work of one-color fabric. You might be interested in:
