Baptism according to the Apostle Peter is “the promise to God of a good conscience” (1 Pet. 3:21). The one who is baptized makes a vow to live the rest of the time according to a clear conscience, in the entire breadth of the Lord’s commandments, accepted into conscience. Moral purity is a characteristic of the baptized. The Apostle Paul compares the lordship of his life with the lordship of the risen Lord. “So that just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, so we too might walk in newness of life” (Rom. 6:4). In baptism, the old sin-loving man dies and a new man arises, zealous for good deeds. “So you also, who have been baptized, consider yourselves dead to sin, but alive to God in Christ Jesus our Lord. Therefore, do not let sin reign in your mortal body, so that you should obey it in its lusts; and do not yield your members to sin as instruments of unrighteousness, but present yourselves to God as having been alive from the dead, and your members to God as instruments of righteousness.
