(2 Cor. 5, 1–10; Luke 7, 2–10) What a bright personality the centurion is! How did he reach such faith that he surpassed all the Israelis, brought up by revelation, prophecies and miracles? The Gospel does not indicate how, but only depicts his faith and says how the Lord praised him. The path of faith is a secret, hidden path. Who can explain in himself how the convictions of faith are formed in the heart? This is best solved by St. the apostle, calling faith the gift of God (Eph. 2:8). Faith is truly a gift from God, but non-believers are not unrequited; therefore, it is their own fault that this gift is not given to them. There is no receiver for this gift, it is not given, because there is nothing to accept it with, and in this case, giving is the same as wasting. How the soul becomes a capable recipient of the gift of faith is difficult to determine. The centurion shows extreme humility, despite the fact that he was a powerful man, virtuous and reasonable. Is it not humility that attracts this great mercy that gives faith? Not very surprising. At least everyone knows that unbelievers always have a proud spirit and that faith most of all requires submission of the mind to its yoke. You might be interested in:
