Евангелие от Матфея

Machine translation from the original · Show original
The book of the kinship of Jesus Christ, son of David, son of Abraham. Abraham gave birth to Isaac; Isaac gave birth to Jacob; And Jacob begat Judah and his brothers; Judah begat Perez and Zerah by Tamar; Perez gave birth to Hezrom; Hezrom begat Aram; Aram gave birth to Abinadab; Amminadab begat Nahshon; Nahshon begat Salmon; Salmon begat Boaz by Rahab; Boaz begot Obed by Ruth; Obed gave birth to Jesse; Jesse begat David king; David the king begat Solomon from the one who followed Uriah; Solomon gave birth to Rehoboam; Rehoboam gave birth to Abijah; Abijah begat Asa; Asa begat Jehoshaphat; Jehoshaphat begat Joram; Jehoram begat Uzziah; Uzziah begat Jotham; Jotham begat Ahaz; Ahaz begat Hezekiah; Hezekiah begat Manasseh; Manasseh begat Amon; Amon gave birth to Josiah; Josiah begat Joachim; Joachim begat Jehoiachin and his brothers during the Babylonian exile. After the resettlement of Babylon, Jeconiah gave birth to Salafiel; Shealtiel begat Zerubbabel; Zerubbabel begat Abihu; Abihu begat Eliakim; Eliakim begat Azor; Azor gave birth to Zadok; Zadok gave birth to Achim; Achim begat Eliud; Elihu gave birth to Eleazar; Eleazar begat Matthan; Matthan gave birth to Jacob; Jacob begat Joseph, the husband of Mary, and from Neyazhe was born Jesus, the spoken Christ. All the generations from Abraham to David are fourteen generations; and from David to the exile of Babylon there were fourteen generations; and from the migration of Babylon to Christ there are fourteen generations. The birth of Jesus Christ was like this: His Mother Mary was betrothed to Joseph, and before they got together, it was revealed that She was pregnant with the Holy Spirit. Joseph, Her husband, being righteous and not wanting to expose Her, wanted to secretly let Her go. But only he thought this; behold, the Angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream and said: Joseph, son of David! Do not be afraid to receive Miriam your wife; that which is born in Her of the Spirit is the Holy One; and she will give birth to a Son, and you will call His name Jesus; for He will save His people from their sins. Nevertheless, this happened, so that this prophetic word spoken from the Lord might be fulfilled: Behold, the Virgin will conceive and give birth to a Son, and they will call His name Immanuel, which means: God is with us (Is. 7:14). Joseph arose from sleep, did as the Angel of the Lord commanded him, and received his wife, and He did not know Her until She gave birth to Her firstborn Son; and he called His name Jesus. When Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judea, in the days of Herod the king, behold, wise men 1 from the east came to Jerusalem and began to say: where is the born King of the Jews? we saw His star in the east and came to worship Him. Hearing this, King Herod was troubled, and all Jerusalem with him. And, having gathered all the high priests and scribes of men, he asked them: where is Christ born? They said to him: in Bethlehem of Judea; for this is what is written by the prophet: and you, Bethlehem, land of Judah, are no less among the rulers of Judah; For out of you will come a Leader, and will shepherd My people Israel (Micah 5:2). Then Herod secretly called the Magi and tested from them the time of the appearance of the star. and, sending them to Bethlehem, he said: go, find out reliably about the Child, and when you find it, tell me: then I will go to worship Him. They, having listened to the king, went. And behold, the star that they saw in the east walked before them, and finally came and stood over the place where the Child was. When they saw the star, they rejoiced with great joy, and, having come to the church, they saw the Child with Mary, His Matter, and falling down they worshiped Him; and having opened their treasures, they brought Him gifts: gold, and frankincense, and myrrh. And having received the news in a dream not to return to Herod, they departed to their country by a different route. And when they had departed, behold, the Angel of the Lord appeared to Joseph in a dream and said: Arise, take the Child and His Mother, and flee to Egypt, and be there until I tell you; for Herod wants to look for the Child in order to destroy Him. He rose up and fed the Child and His Mother at night, and went to Egypt, and he was there until the death of Herod, so that the word spoken by the Lord to the prophet might be fulfilled: Out of Egypt I called My Son (Hosea 11:1). Then Herod, seeing that he had been reproached by the Magi, became very angry and sent to kill all the babies in Bethlehem and throughout its borders, from two years old and below, according to the time that he reliably learned from the Magi. Then the word spoken by the prophet Jeremiah came true: a voice was heard in Rama, weeping and sobbing and much crying; Rachel weeps for her children and does not want to be consoled that they are gone (Jer. 31:15). After the death of Herod, behold, the Angel of the Lord appeared to Joseph in Egypt in a dream. and said: Rise up, take the Child and His Mother, and go to the land of Israel; for those who sought the souls of the Child died. He got up and gave water to the Child and His Mother and came to the land of Israel. Hearing that Archelaus reigned in Judea instead of Herod his father, he was afraid to go there; but, having received the news in a dream, he went into the borders of Galilee and he came and settled in a city called Nazareth, so that what was spoken by the prophets might be fulfilled, that He would be called a Nazarene. In those days John the Baptist came preaching in the desert of Judea, and so he said: repent; The Kingdom of Heaven has come near. For this is what was spoken by the prophet Isaiah: the voice of one crying in the wilderness; prepare the way of the Lord, make His paths right (Isaiah 40:3). John himself was clothed with a camel's hair shirt, and a leather belt was around his loins; and its food was locusts and wild honey. Then Jerusalem and all Judea and all the country of Jordan came to him, and were baptized in the Jordan by him, confessing their sins. Seeing John many Pharisees and Sadducees coming to be baptized to him, he said to them: brood of vipers! who told you to flee from the wrath to come? Create fruit worthy of repentance, and do not begin to say within yourself: Our father is Abraham; I tell you that God is able to raise up children for Abraham from these stones. Already the ax lies at the root of the tree: every tree that does not produce good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. I baptize you with water unto repentance; But someone stronger than I is coming for me, and I am not worthy to carry His boots; He baptizes you with the Holy Spirit and fire; and the shovel is in His hand, and He will clear His threshing floor, and He will gather His wheat into the barn, and He will burn the chaff with unquenchable fire. Then Jesus comes from Galilee to the Jordan to John to be baptized by him. John rebuked Him and said: I need to be baptized by You, and are You coming to me? But Jesus answered him and said, “Leave it now; Thus it becomes us to fulfill all righteousness. Then he admitted Him. And having been baptized, Jesus immediately came out of the water; and behold, the heavens were opened to Him, and He saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and descending on Him. And behold, a voice from heaven said: This is My beloved Son, in Him I am well pleased. Then Jesus was led up by the Spirit into the wilderness, into temptation from the devil, and, having fasted forty days and forty nights, at last he became hungry. And, approaching Him, the tempter said: if You are the Son of God; rivers, so that these stones become bread. He answered and said to him: It is written: Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that proceeds from the mouth of God (Deut. 8:3). Then the devil will take Him to the holy city and place Him on the wing of the church, and says to Him: If you are the Son of God, cast yourself down; for it is written: He will command His angels for You, to keep You, and in their hands they will bear You up, lest You dash Your foot against a stone (Ps. 90:11-12). Jesus said to him: It is also written: Thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God (Deut. 6:16). The devil will take Him again to a high mountain, and show Him all the kingdoms of the world and their glory, and he says to Him: I will give all this to You if, when you fall, you will worship me. Then Jesus said to him: Get behind Me, Satan; for it is written: Worship the Lord your God and serve Him alone (Deut. 6:13). Then the devil left Him, and behold, the angels came and served Him. When Jesus heard that John had been betrayed, he went away to Galilee, and leaving Nazareth, he came and settled in Capernaum by the sea, in the borders of Zebulun and Naphtali, may what was spoken by Isaiah the prophet be fulfilled: the land of Zebulun and the land of Naphtali, on the way of the sea, on the floor of Jordan, Galilee of the heathen, the people sitting in darkness saw a great light, and for those sitting in the land and shadow of death, a light shone for them (Is. 9:1-2). From there Jesus began to preach and say: Repent; The Kingdom of Heaven has come near. And as he passed by the Sea of Galilee, he saw two brothers, Simon called Peter, and Andrew his brother, sweeping nets into the sea, for they were fishermen; and he saith unto them, Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men. And they immediately left their nets and followed Him. From there, going further, he saw two other brothers, James Zebedee and John his brother, in the ship with their father Zebedee, mending their nets, and called them. And they immediately left the ship and their father and followed Him. And Jesus went throughout all Galilee, teaching in their synagogues and preaching the gospel of the kingdom, healing every disease and every plague among the people. And rumors about Him spread throughout all Syria; and they brought to Him all those who were sick, those possessed by various ailments and illnesses, those possessed by demons, those menstruating, and the paralytic; and healed them. And a multitude of people came against Him from Galilee and the Decapolis, and from Jerusalem, and Judea, and from the country beyond the Jordan. Seeing the multitude of people, He ascended the mountain; and he sat down, and his disciples came to him. And He opened His mouth and began to teach them, saying: blessed are the poor in spirit; for of them is the Kingdom of Heaven. Blessed are those who mourn; for they will be comforted. Blessed are the meek; for they will inherit the earth. Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness; for they will be satisfied. Blessed are the merciful; for they will receive mercy. Blessed are the pure in heart; for such will see God. Blessed are the peacemakers; for they will be called sons of God. Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness' sake; for of them is the Kingdom of Heaven. Blessed are you when they revile you and persecute you, and speak evil of you in every way and lie against you, for My sake. Rejoice and be glad; for your reward is abundant in heaven; Thus they persecuted the prophets who were before you. You are the salt of the earth. If the salt overwhelms, what will it be used for salting? It will be good for nothing else, except to throw it out for people to trample underfoot. You are the light of the world. A city standing on top of a mountain cannot hide; and when they light a candle, they do not put it under a bushel, but on the candlestick, and it gives light to everyone who is in the church. So let your light shine before men, so that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven. Do not think that I came to destroy the law or the prophets: I did not come to destroy, but to fulfill. Truly I say to you, until heaven and earth pass away, not one jot or one tittle will pass from the law, until everything is fulfilled. And whoever destroys one of these little commandments and teaches men to do so, he will be called lesser in the Kingdom of Heaven; and whoever does and teaches, he will be called great in the Kingdom of Heaven. For, I tell you, unless your righteousness fails more than the scribes and Pharisees; you will not enter the Kingdom of Heaven. They heard that it was said to the ancients: do not kill; if anyone kills, he is guilty of judgment (Ex. 20:13). But I tell you that everyone who is angry with his brother without cause is guilty of judgment; whoever says to his brother: cancer 2 is guilty of the host 3; and whoever says, “You are a fool,” is subject to fiery hell. And when you bring your gift to the altar and there you remember that your brother has something against you, leave your gift there before the altar, and go, first make peace with your brother, and then come, bring your gift. Make an agreement with your opponent quickly while you are still on the way with him, lest your opponent hand you over to the judge, and the judge hand you over to the servant, and you will be thrown into prison; Truly I say to you: you will not come out of there until you have paid the last coin. They heard that it was said to the ancients: Thou shalt not commit adultery (Ex. 20:14). But I tell you that anyone who looks at a wife lustfully has already committed adultery with her in his heart. If the eye of your right hand causes you to stumble; take it away and cast it away from you: it is better for you that one of your members perishes, and not that your whole body is cast into fiery hell. And if your right hand causes you to stumble; cut it off and cast it away from you: it is better for you that one of your members perishes, and not that your whole body is cast into hell. And it is also said that whoever sends his wife away must give her a book of divorcement (Deut. 24:1). But I say to you: everyone who lets his wife go, except for the guilt of fornication, makes her an adulteress; and whoever takes a wicked wife commits adultery. You have also heard what was said to the ancients: Do not swear falsely, but keep your oaths before the Lord (Lev.19:12; Deut.23:21). But I say to you: do not swear at all: not by heaven, for it is the throne of God; nor the earth, for it is His footstool; nor Jerusalem, for it is the city of the great King (Is.66:1. Ps.47:3); Do not swear by your head, for you cannot make even a single hair white or black; but let your word be: to her, to her! neither, nor! and anything beyond that is from wickedness. You have heard that it was said: an eye for an eye, and a tooth for a tooth (Ex. 21:24). But I tell you: do not resist evil. But whoever hits you on the right side of your cheek, give him the other one too; and whoever wants to sue you and take your clothes, give him the swearing as well; and whoever forces you to go through one race by force, go with him two. Give to the one who asks from you, and do not turn away the one who wants to borrow from you. You have heard that it was said: You will love your neighbor and hate your enemy (Lev.19:17-18). But I say to you: love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who harm you and persecute you, that you may be sons of your Father who is in heaven: He makes His sun shine on both the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and on the unjust. If you love those who love you, what is your reward? And don’t publicans do the same things? And if you are only friendly to your friends, what are you doing that is special? Isn’t that what the pagans do too? Be perfect, just as your Heavenly Father is perfect. Take heed, do not do your alms in front of men so that they may see you: otherwise there will be no reward for you from your Heavenly Father. And when you give alms, do not blow a trumpet before you, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, so that people will glorify them. Truly I say to you, they have received their reward. And when you do alms, let your foolishness not know what your right hand is doing, let your alms be in secret; and your Father, seeing in secret, will reward you openly. And when you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, who love to stand and pray in synagogues and at crossroads so that people can see them. Truly I tell you that they will receive their reward. But when you pray, go into your closet and, having closed your doors, pray to your Father who is in secret; and your Father, seeing in secret, will reward you openly. And when praying, do not say unnecessary things, like the pagans; for they imagine that in their many words they will be heard; do not be like them; For your Father knows what you need before you ask. Pray like this: Our Father, who is in heaven! Hallowed be Thy name; Thy kingdom come; Thy will be done as in heaven and on earth; give us this day our daily bread and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. Thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen. If you forgive people their sins; Your Heavenly Father will also forgive you. If you do not forgive people their sins; and your Father will not forgive you your sins. And when you fast, do not be sad, like the hypocrites: they darken their faces in order to appear to people fasting. Truly I tell you that they will receive their reward. But when you fast, anoint your head and wash your face, so that he may not appear to men who are fasting, but to your Father, who is in secret; and your Father, seeing in secret, will reward you openly. Do not hide treasures for yourself on earth, where worms and aphids smolder, and where thieves break in and steal; but hide your treasures in heaven, where neither worms nor aphids smolder, and where thieves do not break in or steal; for where your treasure is, there will your heart be also. The lamp of the body is the eye. And if your eye is simple, then your whole body will be light; if your eye be deceitful; your whole body will be dark. So, if the light that is in you is darkness, then what is the darkness? No one can work for two masters: either he will love one and hate the other, or he will be devoted to one, but will not care about the other. You cannot work for God and mammon 4. For this reason I say to you: do not worry about your soul, what you will eat or what you will drink, or your body, what you will put on. Is not the soul greater than food, and the body greater than clothing? Look at the birds of the air; They do not sow, nor reap, nor gather into barns, and your heavenly Father feeds them. Aren't you much better than them? Who among you, through his care, can add one cubit to his height? And why are you worrying about clothes? Look at the lilies of the field, how do they grow? They neither toil nor spin; but I tell you that Solomon in all his glory was not clothed like one of these. If the grass of the field, which exists today and is swept into the oven tomorrow, God clothes it like this; How much more than you, you of little faith! Don’t worry and don’t say, “What shall we eat?” or what to drink? or what to wear? All this the pagans seek; but your Heavenly Father knows that you need all this. Seek first the Kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all things will be added to you. Do not worry about tomorrow: tomorrow worries about itself; Enough for the day's care. Judge not, lest ye be judged; For with the kind of judgment you judge, so you will be judged; and with the measure you use, it will be measured back to you. And why do you see the knots in your brother's eye, but do not feel the logs in your eye? or, as you say to your brother: let me take the bitch out of your eye; is there a log in your eye? Hypocrite! First take the plank out of your eye, and then see to it that you can take the speck out of your brother’s eye. Do not give what is holy to dogs, and do not throw your pearls before swine, lest they trample them under their feet and turn and tear you to pieces. Ask, and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock, and the door will be opened to you. Everyone who asks receives, and everyone who seeks finds, and to him who knocks the door will be opened. Or who is the man you have that, when his son asked him for bread, he gave him a stone? And when he asks for a fish, would you give him a snake? If you, being wicked, know how to give good gifts to your children; How much more will your Father in heaven give good things to those who ask Him? So in everything, as you want people to do to you, so do you to them; for this is the law and the prophets. Enter through the narrow gate; the wide gate and the broad way lead into destruction, and many enter through it; but the narrow gate and the strait path lead into life, and there are few who find it. Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ravenous wolves; by their fruits you will know them. Are grapes gathered from thorns, or figs from thistles? So every good tree produces good fruit, but a bad tree produces bad fruit; A good tree cannot produce bad fruit, nor can a bad tree produce good fruit. Every tree that does not produce good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. Thus you will know them by their fruits. Not everyone who says to Me: Lord! God! will enter the Kingdom of Heaven, but whoever does the will of My Father who is in heaven. Many will say to Me on that day: Lord! God! Have we not prophesied in Your name? and was it not in Your name that they cast out demons? and did not many do mighty things in Your name? And then I confess to them: I never knew you; Depart from me, you workers of iniquity. Therefore, everyone who hears these words of Mine and does them, I will liken him to a wise man who built his house on the rock: and the rain fell, and the rivers overflowed, and the winds blew, and rushed against that house, and did not fall; for it was founded on stone. And everyone who hears these words of Mine and does not do them will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand: and the rain fell, and the rivers gushed, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and he fell, and his great destruction was. And when Jesus had finished speaking these words, the people marveled at His teaching: for He taught them as one who had authority, and not as the scribes and Pharisees. When He came down from the mountain; A multitude of people followed Him. And so the leper came up and, bowing to Him, said: Lord! if you want, you can cleanse me. And Jesus stretched out his hand and touched him, saying: I want you to be clean. And immediately his leprosy was cleansed. And Jesus said to him: See that you don’t tell anyone; but go, show yourself to the priest, and offer the gift that Moses commanded in the law, as a testimony to them. When Jesus entered Capernaum; The centurion came to Him, beseeching Him, and said: Lord! My boy lies at home relaxed and suffers fiercely. And Jesus said to him: I will come and heal him. The centurion, answering, said: Lord! I am not worthy for You to come under my roof; but just say the word, and my child will be healed; For I am a man under authority, and I have soldiers under me, and I say to one, Go, and he goes; and to another: come, and he comes; and to my servant: Do this, and he will do it. When Jesus heard this, he was amazed and said to those following Him, “Truly I say to you, even in Israel I did not find much faith.” I tell you that many will come from the east and the west and will lie down with Abraham and Isaac and Jacob in the kingdom of heaven; the sons of the kingdom will be cast out into utter darkness; there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth. And Jesus said to the centurion, Go, and as you have believed, it will be done for you. And the boy healed him at that hour. And when Jesus came to the house of Peter, he saw his mother-in-law lying in the hot heat, and he touched her hand, and the fever left her; and she arose and ministered to Him. Late in the evening they brought many demon-possessed people to Him, and he cast out the spirits with a word, and healed all who were sick, may the word spoken by the prophet Isaiah be fulfilled: He took our ailments upon Himself, and bore our illnesses (Is. 53:4). When Jesus saw a multitude of people surrounding Him, He commanded the disciples to sail to the other shore. And one scribe came up and said to Him: Teacher! I will follow You wherever You go. And Jesus said to him: Foxes have holes, and birds of the air have nests; The Son of Man has no place to lay his head. Another of His disciples said to Him: Lord! commanded me first to go and bury my father. Jesus said to him, “Follow me and leave the dead to bury their dead.” And when He entered the ship, His disciples followed Him. And a great storm arose in the sea, so that the ship was covered with waves; He was sleeping. Then the disciples came up and woke Him up and said: Lord! save us; we die. And he said to them: Why are you so fearful, you of little faith? Then, having risen, he rebuked the winds and the sea, and there came a great silence. The people marveled and said, “Who is this, that even the winds and the sea should listen to Him?” And when he came to the other side, to the country of Gergesin, he was met by two demon-possessed men who came out of the graves 5, strongly fierce, so that no one dared to pass along that path. And behold, they cried out: What do you want about us, Jesus, Son of God? You came here ahead of time to torment us. Far from them a large herd of pigs was grazing. And the demons prayed to Him: if you cast us out; They told us to go into the swine herd. And he said to them: Go. And they went out and entered the swine herd. And so, the herd all rushed along the shore into the sea and drowned in the waters. Those who were shepherding fled and, coming into the city, announced everything, including those possessed by demons. And behold, the whole city came out to meet Jesus; and, seeing Him, they prayed to depart from their borders. And he got into the ship, sailed across, and came to his city. And so they brought Him a paralytic lying on a bed. And Jesus seeing their faith, said to the paralytic: Be of good cheer, child! Your sins are forgiven you. Then some of the scribes said to themselves: He speaks blasphemy. But Jesus seeing their thoughts, said: Why do you think evil in your hearts? What is more convenient to say: your sins are forgiven, or to say: get up and walk? but know that the Son of man has power on earth to forgive sins; (then he says to the paralytic): Arise, take up your bed and go to your house. And he got up, took up his bed and went to his house. When the people saw this, they marveled and glorified God, who had given such power to men. And Jesus, passing from there, saw a man sitting on the tollhouse, called Matthew, and said to him: come to me. And he stood up and followed Him (Luke 5:27). And as He reclined in the house; many tax collectors and sinners came and sat with Him and with His disciples. Seeing this, the Pharisees said to His disciples: Why does your Teacher eat and drink with publicans and sinners? When Jesus heard it, he said to them: Those who are healthy do not require a doctor, but those who are sick; Go, learn what it means: I want mercy, not sacrifice. I did not come to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance (Hosea 6:6). Then John's disciples came to Him and said: Why do we and the Pharisees fast a lot, but Your disciples do not fast? And Jesus said to them: Can the wedding guests weep while the bridegroom is with them? But the days will come when the groom is taken away from them, and then they will fast. And no one puts patches of unbleached cloth on old clothes; for what has been sewn again will be torn away from the old, and the hole will be even worse. And they do not put new wine into old wineskins; otherwise the skins will burst, and the wine will spill, and the skins will perish; but they put new wine into new wineskins, and both are preserved. As He also said these things; a certain prince came and, bowing to Him, said: my daughter died today; but come, lay Your hand on her, and she will live. And Jesus stood up and followed him, and so did His disciples. And behold, the woman, who had been bleeding for twelve years, came up from behind and touched the hem of His garment; for she said within herself: If I only touch His garment, I will be saved. Jesus, turning and seeing her, said: Be of good cheer, daughter! your faith has saved you. And the wife was saved from that hour. And when Jesus came to the house of that prince, he saw the flute players and the people in confusion; and he said to them: Go out; The girl is not dead, but she is sleeping. And they laughed at Him. When the people were sent out, they came in, took her hand, and the maiden stood up. And the rumor about this spread throughout all that land. When Jesus walked from there, two blind men followed Him and shouted: Have mercy on us, Jesus, son of David! When he came into the house, blind men came to Him. Jesus said to them: Do you believe that I can do this? They say to Him: Yes, Lord! Then he touched their eyes and said, “According to your faith, it will be done for you.” And their eyes were opened; and Jesus rebuked them, saying, Take heed that no one find out. But when they left, they began to glorify Him throughout all that land. When did they come out? They brought to Him a mute man possessed by a demon. And when the demon was cast out, the dumb man began to speak. And the people marveled and said, “Nothing like this had ever been seen in Israel.” And the Pharisees said: By the power of the prince of demons He casts out demons. And Jesus went through all the cities and villages, teaching in their synagogues, and preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing every disease and every plague among the people. Seeing the people, he had mercy on them, because they were exhausted and scattered, like sheep without a shepherd. Then He said to His disciples: The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few; pray to the Lord of the harvest, that he may bring forth the laborers into his harvest. And having called His twelve disciples, He gave them power over unclean spirits, to cast them out, and to heal every disease and every disease. The names of the twelve Apostles are these: first Simon, called Peter, and Andrew his brother, James Zebedee and John his brother, Philip and Bartholomew, Thomas and Matthew the publican, James Alphaeus and Lebway, called Thaddeus, Simon the Canaanite and Judas Iscariot, he also betrayed Him. These twelve Jesus sent and commanded them, saying: Do not go into the way of the Gentiles, and do not enter the city of the Samaritans: Go rather to the lost sheep of the house of Israel. As you walk, preach, saying that the Kingdom of Heaven is at hand. Heal the sick, cleanse the lepers, raise the dead, cast out demons; you received for free, give for free. Do not take with you gold, silver, or copper in your belts, no bag for the journey, no two clothes, no boots, no staff. For the worker is worthy of his reward. Whatever city or village you enter, find out who is worthy to eat in it, and stay there until you leave. And when you enter a house, greet it, saying: Peace to this house. And if the house is worthy, your peace will come upon it; if you are not worthy, your peace will return to you. And whoever will not receive you and listen to your words; When you leave your house or that city, shake off the dust from your feet; Truly I say to you, it will be more tolerable for the land of Sodom and Gomorrah on the day of judgment than for that city. Behold, I send you out as sheep among wolves: be therefore wise as serpents, and innocent as doves. Take heed from men, for they will hand you over to judgment seats, and in their councils they will beat you, and you will be brought before rulers and kings for My sake, as a testimony to them and to the Gentiles. When will they betray you; do not worry about how or what to say, for it will be given to you in that hour what to say; For it is not you who speak, but the Spirit of your Father who speaks in you. Brother will betray brother to death, and father will betray his child; and the children will rise up against their parents and kill them; and you will be hated by everyone for My name's sake; he who endures to the end will be saved. When will they persecute you in one city? run to another. For truly I say to you, before the cities of Israel are finished, the Son of Man comes. A student will not be higher than his teacher, nor a slave higher than his master: It is enough for a disciple to be like his teacher, and for a slave to be like his master. If the ruler of the house was called Beelzebub; how much more than his household? So do not be afraid of them: for there is nothing hidden that will not be revealed, and nothing hidden that will not be known. What I say to you in darkness, speak in the light; and whatever you hear in the ear, preach on the housetops. And do not be afraid of those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul; Fear more than him who is able to destroy both soul and body in hell. Are not two birds sold for one assarium 6? And not one of them will fall to the ground without the will of your Father. The hair on your head has all been numbered; Do not be afraid: you are better than many birds. And everyone who confesses Me before men, I will also confess him before My Father who is in heaven; But whoever denies Me before men, I will also deny him before My Father who is in heaven. Do not remember that I came to bring peace to earth; I did not come to bring peace, but a sword; For I have come to divide a man against his father, and a daughter against her mother, and a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law. And a man’s enemies are his own household. Whoever loves father or mother more than Me is not worthy of Me; and whoever loves a son or daughter more than Me is not worthy of Me; and whoever does not accept his cross and follow Me is not worthy of Me. Whoever finds his life will lose it; and whoever loses his life for My sake will find it. Whoever accepts you accepts Me; and whoever receives Me receives Him who sent Me. Whoever receives a prophet, in the name of the prophet, will receive the prophet’s bribe; and whoever receives the righteous, in the name of the righteous, will receive the reward of the righteous. And whoever gives one of these little ones a cup of cold water to drink only in the name of the disciple; Truly I tell you, he will not lose his reward. And when Jesus gave the commandment to His twelve disciples; He moved from there to teach and preach in their cities. John, having heard in prison about the works of Christ, sent two of his disciples say to Him: Are You the One Who must come, or do we expect something else? And Jesus answered and said to them, Go and tell John what you hear and see: the blind see and the lame walk, lepers are cleansed and the deaf hear, the dead are raised and the poor are preached to; and blessed is he who is not offended because of Me. When they were leaving, Jesus began to speak to the people about John: Why did you go into the wilderness to see? Is it a cane shaken by the wind? What did you go to see? a man clothed in soft garments? But those who dress luxuriously are in the royal courts. What did you go to see? prophet? Yes, I tell you, and more than a prophet. This is the one about whom it is written: Behold, I send My angel before Thy face, to prepare Thy way before Thee (Mal.3:1). Truly I say to you, among those born of women there has arisen no one greater than John the Baptist; but he who is least in the kingdom of heaven is greater than he. From the days of John the Baptist until now, the Kingdom of Heaven has been forced by force and taken by force; for all the prophets and the law before John prophesied. And, if you want to accept, he is Elijah, who must come. whoever has ears to hear, let them hear! But to whom shall I compare this generation? He is like children sitting in market places shouting to their comrades and they say: we played for you, and you did not dance; they sang sad songs to you, and you did not cry. For John came neither eating nor drinking; and they say: he has a demon. The Son of Man came, eating and drinking; and they say: This man eats and drinks wine, a friend of publicans and sinners. And wisdom was justified in her children. Then He began to reproach the cities, in which His powers were greatly manifested, because they did not repent: woe to you, Chorazin! woe to you, Bethsaida! if the powers that were manifested in you had been manifested in Tire and Sidon; They would have repented long ago in sackcloth and ashes; But I tell you, it will be more tolerable for Tire and Sidon on the day of judgment than for you. And you. Capernaum, which ascended to heaven, will be cast down to hell; if the powers that were manifested in you had been manifested in Sodom; he would have remained to this day; But I tell you that it will be more tolerable for the land of Sodom on the day of judgment than for you. At that time, Jesus answered and said: I confess to You, Father, Lord of heaven and earth! that You hid this from the wise and prudent and revealed it to babes; Hey, Father! such was my favor before You. All things have been handed over to Me by My Father, and no one knows the Son except the Father; and no one knows the Father except the Son, and to whom the Son deigns to reveal it. Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest; take My yoke upon you and learn from Me that I am meek and lowly in heart; and you will find rest for your souls; for My yoke is easy, and My burden is light. At that time Jesus passed through the sown field on the Sabbath; His disciples became hungry and began to pick the ears of corn and eat. The Pharisees, seeing this, said to Him: Behold, Your disciples are doing what is unworthy to do on the Sabbath. He said to them: Have you not read what David did when he and those with him were hungry? How did he enter the house of God and eat the showbread, which was not worthy for him to eat, nor for those with him, except for the priests alone? Or have you not read in the law that on Saturday the priests in the church break the Sabbath, and are innocent? I tell you that there is someone here who is greater than the church. If you knew what it means: I want mercy, not sacrifice; they would not condemn the innocent (Hosea 6:6). For the Lord is the Son of man and the Sabbath. And he departed from there and entered their synagogue. There was a man there who had a withered hand. And they asked Him: is it worthy to perform healing on the Sabbath? In order to accuse Him of anything. He said to them, “Which man among you has one sheep, if it falls into a pit on the Sabbath, will he not take hold of it and take it out?” how much better than a sheep is a man! It is so worthy to do good on the Sabbath. Then he said to the man, “Stretch out your hand.” And he stretched out, and she was established in health, like the other. The Pharisees went and conspired against Him, how to destroy Him. But Jesus, understanding, departed from there. And a great multitude followed Him, and He healed them all; and forbade them not to declare Him, May the word spoken by Isaiah the prophet be fulfilled: Behold, my servant, whom I have chosen, my beloved, my soul delights in him; I will put My spirit on Him, and He will proclaim judgment to the nations; He will not contradict, nor cry out, and no one will hear His voice at the crossroads; He will not break a bruised reed or quench the smoking flax, until judgment brings victory; and in His name the nations will trust (Is.42:1-4). Then they brought to Him a man possessed by a demon, blind and dumb; and he healed him, so that the blind and dumb began to speak and see. And all the people marveled and said, Is not this the Christ, the son of David? The Pharisees, hearing this, said: He casts out demons only by the power of Beelzebub, the prince of demons. But Jesus, knowing their thoughts, said to them: Every kingdom divided against itself will be desolate; and every city or house, divided against itself, will not stand. And if Satan casts out Satan; then it divided itself into itself; How can his kingdom stand? And if I cast out demons by the power of Beelzebub; By whose power do they drive out your sons? For this reason they will be your judges. But if I cast out demons by the Spirit of God, then the kingdom of God has surely come upon you. Or how can anyone enter the house of a strong man and plunder his vessels, unless he first binds the strong man? and then he will plunder his house. He who is not with Me is against Me; and whoever does not gather with Me scatters. For this reason I tell you: all sin and blasphemy will be forgiven to men; but blasphemy against the Spirit will not be allowed to men; and whoever speaks a word against the Son of man will be forgiven him; but whoever speaks against the Holy Spirit will not be forgiven him, either in this age or in the next. Either create a good tree and its fruit is good, or create an evil tree and its fruit is evil: by the fruit is the tree known. Spawn of vipers! How can you speak good when you are evil? Out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks. A good man brings forth good things from a good treasure; and the wicked man brings out evil things from wicked treasures. I tell you that every idle word that men speak will be answered on the day of judgment; For by your words you will be justified, and by your words you will be condemned. Then some of the scribes and Pharisees answered and said: Teacher! We want to see a sign from You. He answered and said to them, “An evil and adulterous generation seeks a sign, and no sign will be given to it except the sign of the prophet Jonah: how Jonah was in the belly of the whale for three days and three nights; so will the Son of man be in the heart of the earth for three days and three nights. The men of Nineveh will rise up in judgment with this generation and condemn it: for they repented from the preaching of Jonah; and behold, He who is greater than Jonah is here. The queen of the south will rise up in judgment with this generation and condemn it: for she came from the ends of the earth to listen to the wisdom of Solomon; and behold, He who is greater than Solomon is here. When will the unclean spirit come out of a person? passes through waterless places, looking for peace, and does not find it. Then he says: I will return to my house from where I came. And when he comes he will find it idle, swept and adorned; then he goes and takes with him seven other spirits. the most cruel of themselves, and those who entered live there; and the last will be worse than the first for that person. So it will be for this evil generation. While He was still speaking to the people; His mother and brothers stood outside the house and wanted to talk to Him. And someone said to Him: Behold, Your Mother and Your brothers are standing outside, wanting to talk to You. He answered and said to him: Who is my mother? and who are my brethren? And stretching out His hand towards His disciples, He said: Behold, My mother and My brethren; For whoever does the will of My Father who is in heaven, he is My brother and sister and mother. On that day, Jesus left home and sat by the sea. And a great crowd gathered to Him, so that He entered the ship and sat down; and all the people stood on the shore. And he began to speak to them in many parables, like this: behold, a sower went out to sow. And when he sowed, some fell along the way; and the birds came and pecked him. Others fell on a rock where there was not much earth; and soon it sprang up where there was no depth of earth; when the sun rose; withered and, having no roots, dried up. Some fell among the thorns, and the thorns came up and choked them. Others fell on good soil and yielded fruit: in some places a hundredfold, and in others sixty, and in others thirty. He who has ears to hear, let him hear! And the disciples came and said to Him, “Why do you speak to them in parables?” He answered and said to them: because it has been given to you to understand the mysteries of the Kingdom of Heaven, but it has not been given to them; for whoever has, to him will be given and more will be given to him, but whoever does not have, even what he has will be taken away from him. For this reason I say in parables that seeing they do not see, and hearing they do not hear, and they do not understand, and Isaiah’s prophecy is fulfilled on them: You will hear by hearing, but will not understand; and you will see in vain, and you will not see; For the heart of this people is thick, and their ears are hard to hear, and their eyes are closed, lest they see with their eyes, and hear with their ears, and understand with their heart, and convert, that I may heal them (Is. 6:9-10). Blessed are your eyes that see, and your ears that hear; Verily I say unto you, that many prophets and righteous men desired to see what you see, and did not see, and to hear what you hear, and did not hear. Listen to the parable of the sower: To everyone who hears the word of the Kingdom and does not understand, the evil one comes and takes away what was sown in his heart: this is what was sown along the way. But what was sown on stone, there is someone who hears the word and immediately receives it with joy; but has no root in itself and is temporary; when sorrow or persecution arises because of the word, he is immediately tempted. But what was sown among the thorns is the one who hears the word, but the cares of this world and the flattery of riches choke the word, and it becomes unfruitful. But what was sown on good soil is the one who hears the word and understands it: and it bears fruit and creates, in some places a hundredfold, in some sixty, in some thirty. He offered them another parable, saying this: the Kingdom of Heaven was likened to a man who sowed good seed in his field; while the people were sleeping, his enemy came and sowed tares among the wheat and went away; When the greenery sprang up and brought forth fruit, then the tares also appeared. Having arrived, the master's servants said to him: Master! did you not sow good seed in your field? where does the tares come from? He said to them, “The enemy man has done this.” The slaves said to him: Do you want us to go and weed them? But he said to them: no; if you pluck up the tares, would you not also pluck up the wheat along with them? leave both to grow together until the harvest; And at the time of harvest I will say to the reapers: Gather up first the tares and bind them in sheaves to be burned; and gather the wheat into my barn. He proposed another parable to them, saying: The kingdom of heaven is like a mustard seed, which a man took and sowed in his field, and, although it is the smallest of all seeds, when it grows, it is larger than all the grains and becomes a tree, so that the birds of the air fly and take refuge in its branches. He told them another parable: The kingdom of heaven is like leaven: the woman took it and put it in three measures of flour until it was all leavened. Jesus spoke all these things to the people in parables, and without a parable he spoke nothing to them; that the word spoken by the prophet might be fulfilled: I will open my mouth in parables; I will utter what has been hidden since the foundation of the world (Ps. 77:2). Then Jesus left the crowd and entered the house. And coming to Him, His disciples said: Reveal to us the parable of the tares of the field. He answered and said to them, “He who sows the good seed is the Son of man; the field is the world; good seed, these are the sons of the kingdom; and the tares are the sons of the evil one; and the enemy who sowed them is the devil; and the harvest is the end of the age; and the inhabitants are angels. And how they gather up the tares and burn them with fire; so it will be at the end of this age: The Son of man will send His angels, and they will gather from His kingdom all temptations and those who do iniquity and they will be cast into the fiery furnace: there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth; then the righteous will shine like the sun in the Kingdom of their Father. He who has ears to hear, let him hear! Again: the Kingdom of Heaven is like a treasure hidden in a field; and having found it, the man hid it, and went for joy over it, and sold everything he had, and bought that field. Again: the Kingdom of Heaven is like a merchant looking for good pearls; and when he found one pearl of great value, he went and sold all that he had and bought it. And again: the Kingdom of Heaven is like a net that was cast into the sea and captured fish of all kinds; When it was full, they took it to the shore and, sitting down, the good ones collected it in vessels, and the bad ones threw it out. So it will be at the end of the age: the angels will come out and separate the wicked from among the righteous, and they will throw them into the fiery furnace: there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth. And Jesus asked them: Do you understand all this? They say to Him: Yes, Lord! He said to them: For this reason, every scribe who has been taught about the Kingdom of Heaven is like a housewife, who brings out from his treasury new and old things. And when Jesus had finished these parables, he went away from there. And having come to His own country, He taught them in their synagogue, so that they marveled and said, Where did He get this wisdom and power? Isn't He the son of carpenters? Is not His mother called Mary, and His brothers Jacob, and Joses, and Simon, and Judas? and are not His sisters all among us? where did He get all this from? And they were offended because of Him. Jesus said to them: A prophet is not without honor except in his own country and in his own house. And he did not create many mighty forces there because of their disbelief. At that time Herod the tetrarch heard the report of Jesus. and he said to his servants, “This is John the Baptist; he rose from the dead, and for the sake of power they are done about him. For Herod, having taken John, bound him and put him in prison because of Herodias, the wife of his brother Philip, because John said to him: It is not worthy for you to have her. And he wanted to kill him, but he was afraid of the people; for they revered him as a prophet. Herod's birthday came, and the daughter of Herodias danced in front of everyone and pleased Herod; and then he promised with an oath to give her whatever she asked. She, prompted by her mother, said: Give me the head of John the Baptist here on a platter. And the king was sad; but, for the sake of an oath and for those reclining with him, he commanded to give her, and sent John to be beheaded in prison. And they brought his head on a platter and gave it to the girl; and she took it to her mother. His disciples approached, took his body and buried it; and they came to tell Jesus. And when Jesus heard it, he departed from there by ship to a deserted place alone; And when the people heard this, they followed Him from the cities on foot. And Jesus went out and saw a multitude of people, and had mercy on them, and healed their sick. When it became late, His disciples came to Him, saying: This is a deserted place, and the hour is already late; let the people go, let them go to the villages and buy food for themselves. Jesus said to them, “They need not go away; you give them something to eat. They said to Him: We have here only five loaves and two fish. He said: Bring them here to Me. And he commanded the people to lie down on the grass and, having received five loaves and two fish, looking up to heaven, he blessed and, breaking them, gave the loaves to the disciples, and the disciples to the people. And they all ate and were filled; and they collected the remaining pieces into twelve full koshnits; and those who ate were five thousand people, besides wives and children. And then Jesus forced His disciples to enter the ship and wait for Him on the other side until He sent the people away. And, having dismissed the people, he went up to the mountain alone to pray; and the evening remained alone there. The ship was in the middle of the sea, and it was beaten by waves; for the wind was contrary. In the fourth watch of the night Jesus came to them, walking on the sea. And when the disciples saw Him walking on the sea, they were confused, began to say that it was a ghost, and cried out in fear. But Jesus immediately spoke to them and said, “Be of good cheer; It's me, don't be afraid. Peter answered and said to Him: Lord! if You; command me to come to You on the waters. And He said: Go. And Peter got out of the ship and walked on the waters to approach Jesus. But, seeing the strong wind, he was afraid, began to drown and cried out: Lord! save me. And immediately Jesus stretched out his hand, held him back, and said to him, “You have little faith!” why did you doubt? And when they entered the ship, the wind died down. Those who were in the ship came up and worshiped Him and said, “Truly you are the Son of God.” And having crossed over, they arrived in the land of Gennesaret. And when the men of that place knew Him, they sent throughout that whole country, and brought to Him all those who were sick, and they begged Him only to touch the hem of His garment; and whoever touched it was healed. Then the scribes and Pharisees from Jerusalem came to Jesus and began to say: Why do Your disciples transgress the tradition of the elders? They do not wash their hands when they eat bread. He answered and said to them: Why do you also transgress the commandment of God for your tradition? God commanded: honor your father and mother; and whoever curses his father or mother, let him die (Ex. 20:12; 21:16). And you say: when someone says to father or mother: a gift to God is what you would use from me; he may not honor his father or mother. Thus you have destroyed the commandment of God because of your tradition. Hypocrites! Isaiah rightly prophesied about you, saying: These people draw near to Me with their lips, and with their lips they honor Me; their heart is far from Me; but they honor Me in vain, teaching doctrines the commandments of men (Is. 29:13). And calling the people. He said to them: listen and understand! It is not what goes into the mouth that defiles a person; but what comes out of the mouth defiles a person. Then His disciples came and said to Him: Do you know that when the Pharisees heard this word, they were offended? He answered and said: Every plant that My Heavenly Father has not planted will be uprooted; leave them: they are blind leaders to the blind; When a blind man leads a blind man, both will fall into a pit. Peter, I answer, said to Him: Tell us this parable. Jesus said: Or do you still not understand? or have they not realized that everything that goes into the mouth passes into the belly and is cast out? and what comes from the mouth comes from the heart; it defiles a person. From the heart come evil thoughts, murder, adultery, fornication, theft, false witness, blasphemy: this is what defiles a person; but eating with unwashed hands does not defile a person. And Jesus departed from there and went to the countries of Tire and Sidon. And behold, a Canaanite woman, coming out of those places, cried out to Him: Have mercy on me, O Lord, son of David! my daughter is furious. He didn’t answer her a word. And His disciples came and begged Him: Let her go; so she cries after us. He answered and said, “I was sent only to the lost sheep of the house of Israel.” She came up, bowed to Him and said: Lord! help me. He answered and said: It is not good to take away the children’s bread and throw it to the dogs. She said: Yes, Lord! after all, even dogs eat from the grains that fall from their masters’ meals. Then Jesus answered and said to her: O woman! great is your faith; be unto you according to your will. And her daughter was healed at that hour. Having gone from there, Jesus came to the Sea of Galilee and, going up to the mountain, sat down there. And a great multitude came to Him, having with them the lame, the blind, the dumb, the maimed, and many others, and cast them down at the feet of Jesus; and healed them; so that the people marveled, seeing the dumb speaking, the crippled healthy, the lame walking, and the blind seeing; and glorified the God of Israel. Jesus, calling His disciples, said to them: I have mercy on this people, who have remained with Me for three days now, and have nothing to eat; I don’t want to let them go without eating, lest they become weak on the way. And His disciples said to Him: Where can we get so much bread in the desert to satisfy so many people? Jesus said to them: How many loaves have you? They said: seven, and a few fish. Then he ordered the people to lie down on the ground, and having received the seven loaves and fishes, having given praise, he broke them and gave them to his disciples, and the disciples to the people. And they all ate and were filled; and they picked up the remaining pieces, seven koshnitsa full; And those who ate were four thousand men, besides wives and children. And having dismissed the people, he entered the ship and came to the borders of Magdalene. And the Pharisees and Sadducees came to Him, and, tempting, asked Him to show them a sign from heaven. He answered them: when evening comes, you say: the bucket will be visible - the sky will turn red; and in the morning: today there is bad weather - the sky is purple. Hypocrites! Can you discern the face of the sky, but cannot you recognize the signs of the times? An evil and adulterous generation seeks a sign, and no sign will be given to it except the sign of the prophet Jonah. And leaving them, he went away. Having crossed to the other side, the disciples forgot to take His bread. Jesus said to them: Hearken, beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and Sadducees. They thought within themselves and said: it is obvious that we did not take the loaves. Having realized this, Jesus said to them: Why do you think within yourselves, you of little faith, that you did not take the loaves? Do you still not understand and remember about the five loaves for five thousand, and how many baskets you collected? not about seven loaves of bread for four thousand, and how many baskets did you collect? How do you not understand that I did not tell you about bread, but to beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and Sadducees? Then they realized that he told them to keep themselves not from the leaven of bread, but from the teaching of the Pharisees and Sadducees. Having come to the countries of Caesarea Philippi, Jesus asked His disciples: Who do people say that I, the Son of Man, am? They said: some for John the Baptist, others for Elijah, and others for Jeremiah or one of the prophets. He says to them: Who do you say that I am? Simon Peter answered Him and said: You are the Christ, the Son of the living God. Then Jesus answered and said to him, Blessed are you, Simon son of Jonah, for this was not revealed to you by flesh and blood, but by My Father who is in heaven; and I say to you: you are Peter, and I will build My Church on seven stones, and the gates of hell will not prevail against it; and I will give you the keys of the Kingdom of Heaven; and whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven; and whatever you permit on earth will be permitted in heaven. Then Jesus forbade His disciples, so that they should not tell anyone that He was Jesus Christ. From there Jesus began to tell His disciples that it was fitting for Him to go to Jerusalem and suffer many things from the elders and high priests and scribes, and to be killed, and to rise on the third day. And calling Him away, Peter began to rebuke Him, saying: You are merciful, Lord, this will not happen to You. He turned and said to Peter: Get behind Me, Satan; you are a temptation to me; You do not think about what is God, but what is human. Then Jesus said to His disciples: If anyone wants to follow Me; let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow Me; for whoever wants to save his soul will destroy it; and whoever loses his life for My sake will find it. What good is it to a man if he gains the whole world, but loses his soul? or what ransom will a man give for his soul? For the Son of man will come in the glory of His Father with His angels, and then He will reward everyone according to his deeds; Truly I say to you, there are some standing here who will not taste death before they see the Son of man coming in His kingdom. And in six days Jesus killed Peter, James, and John his brother, and led them up to a high mountain alone, and was transfigured before them; and His face shone like the sun, and His robe became white as light. And behold, Moses and Elijah appeared to them, talking with Him. And having spoken, Peter said to Jesus: Lord, it is good for us to be here; If you want, we will create three canopies here: one for you, one for Moses, and one for Elijah. And as they also said, behold, a bright cloud overshadowed them, and behold, a voice from the cloud said: This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased; Listen to him. And when the disciples heard, they fell on their faces and were greatly afraid. And Jesus came and touched them and said, “Rise up and do not be afraid.” Lifting up their eyes, they saw no one except Jesus alone. And when they came down from the mountain, Jesus commanded them, saying: Tell no one the vision until the Son of man rises from the dead. And His disciples asked Him: How come the scribes say that Elijah must come first? Jesus answered and said to them: Elijah will come first and will arrange everything; But I tell you that Elijah has already come, and they did not know him, but did to him what they wanted: so the Son of man will suffer from them. Then the disciples understood what he had told them about John the Baptist. And when they came to the people, a man came up to Him, bowing, and said: Lord! have mercy on my son; He goes berserk at the new moon and suffers grievously; falls into fire many times and into water many times; and I brought him to Thy disciples, and they were not able to heal him. Jesus answered and said: O faithless and perverse generation! How long will I be with you? How long shall I bear with you? bring him here to Me. And Jesus rebuked him; and the demon came out of him, and the boy was healed that hour. Then the disciples came to Jesus privately and said, “Why could we not drive him out?” Jesus said to them: Because of your unbelief; Truly I say to you, if you have faith as a grain of mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, “Move from here to there.” and will pass; and nothing will be impossible for you; this kind does not come from anything except prayer and fasting. And while they were in Galilee, Jesus said to them, “The Son of man will be delivered into the hands of men, and they will kill Him, and on the third day He will rise. And they began to grieve deeply. When they came to Capernaum; The collectors of didrachms 8 came to Peter and said: Will your teacher give didrachms? He said yes. And when he entered the house; Jesus, having warned him, said: What do you think, Simon? From whom do the kings of the earth take tribute or duty? from your own sons or from strangers? Peter said to Him: from strangers. Jesus said to him: So the sons will be free; but let us not tempt them: go to the sea, throw a fishing rod, and take the first fish that you catch first; and, opening her mouth, you will find a statir 9; take it and give it to them for Me and for yourself. At that hour the disciples came to Jesus and said: Who is greatest in the kingdom of heaven? And Jesus called a child and placed him in the midst of them and he said, “Truly I say to you, unless you are converted and become like children, you will not enter the kingdom of heaven.” So, whoever humbles himself like this child will be the greatest in the Kingdom of Heaven; and whoever receives one such child in My name receives Me; But whoever causes one of these little ones to stumble who believe in Me, it would be better for him to have a millstone hung around his neck, and to drown in the depths of the sea. Woe to the world from temptations; temptations must come: but woe to the man from whom temptation comes. If your hand or your foot causes you to stumble; cut it off and cast it away from you: it is better for you to bring it into life for someone who is lame or without arms, than to have two hands and two feet and be cast into eternal fire. And if your eye causes you to stumble; take it away and cast it away from you: it is better for you to enter into life with one eye, than to have two eyes and be cast into fiery hell. Be careful that you do not despise one of these little ones; I tell you that their angels in heaven always see the face of My Heavenly Father. For the Son of man came to seek and to save that which was lost. What do you think? If a certain man has a hundred sheep, and one of them goes astray; will he not leave the ninety-nine in the mountains and go to look for the lost one? and when it happens to find her; Truly I tell you, he rejoices over her more than over the ninety-nine who were not lost. So it is not the will of your Father in heaven, that one of these little ones should perish If your brother sins against you; go and expose him between you and him alone; if he listens to you; you have gained your brother. If he doesn’t listen; take with you one or two more, so that by the mouth of two or three witnesses every word may be established. If he does not listen to them; tell the church; and if he doesn’t listen to the church; then he will be to you like a pagan and a tax collector. Truly I say to you, whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven. Truly again I say to you: if two of you take counsel on earth about whatever you ask, it will be done for them by My Father who is in heaven. And where two or three are gathered in My name; there I am in the midst of them. Then Peter came to Him and said: Lord! If my brother sins against me how many times, should I forgive him up to seven times? Jesus said to him, “I do not say to you, up to seven times, but up to seventy times seven.” For this reason, the Kingdom of Heaven became like a human king, as he wanted to settle accounts with his servants. And how he began to count; They brought to him one debtor who owed him ten thousand talents. And since he did not have anything to pay with, his ruler ordered him to sell him, and his wife, and children, and everything that he had, and to pay. Then that slave fell. bowing to him, he said: Lord! Be patient with me, and I will pay you everything. Having mercy on that slave, the ruler forgave him and remitted the debt. That slave, going out, met one of his comrades who owed him a hundred pennies, and, grabbing him, he strangled him, saying: Give me what you owe me. Then his comrade fell at his feet, begged him and said: have patience with me, and I will give you everything. But he did not want to, but took him away and threw him into prison until he repaid the debt. Seeing this, his comrades took great pity and, when they came, they told their master everything that had happened. Then the master called him and said: You wicked servant! I forgave you all that debt because you begged me; Was it not right for you to have mercy on your companion, just as I had mercy on you? And, becoming angry, his master handed him over to the torturers until he paid him all his debt. So will My Heavenly Father do to you, if each of you does not forgive his brother from your hearts their sins. And when Jesus put an end to these words; left Galilee and came to the borders of Judea, on the other side of the Jordan. Many people followed Him; and He healed them there. And the Pharisees came to Him, tempting Him, and said to Him: Is it worthy for a man to let his wife go for any reason? He answered and said to them: Have you not read that He who created from the beginning created male and female (Gen. 1:27)? And he said: For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and both will become one flesh (Gen. 2:24), so that they are no longer two, but the flesh is one. So, what God has joined together, let no man separate. They say to Him: How did Moses command to give the book of divorce and let it go? He said to them: Moses, because of your hardness of heart, commanded you to let your wives go; from the beginning it was not so; but I say to you: whoever lets his wife go, except for the guilt of adultery, and marries another woman, commits adultery; and he who marries a woman who is released commits adultery. His disciples say to Him: if such is the duty of a man with his wife; then it's better not to get married. He said to them: not everyone can receive this word, but to those who have been given it; for there are eunuchs who were born like this from their mother’s womb; and there are eunuchs castrated by people; and there are eunuchs who have distorted themselves for the sake of the Heavenly Kingdom. Whoever can contain it, let him contain it. Then they brought the children to Him, so that He could lay His hands on them and pray; the disciples forbade them. But Jesus said to them: Leave the children and do not forbid them to come to Me; for of such is the kingdom of heaven. And laying his hands on them, he departed from there. And so someone came up and said to Him: Good Teacher! What good thing can I do to have eternal life? He said to him: Why do you call Me good? No one is good except God. If you want to enter life; keep the commandments. He says to Him: which one? Jesus said: Do not kill; Thou shalt not commit adultery; do not steal; do not bear false witness; Honor your father and mother, and love your neighbor as yourself (Ex. 20:13–16; Lev. 19:18). The young man said to Him: I have kept all this from my youth; what else am I missing? Jesus said to him: if you want to be perfect, go, sell your possessions and give to the poor; and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, follow Me. Having heard such a word, the young man went away mourning, for he had great wealth. Jesus said to His disciples: Truly I say to you, it is difficult for a rich man to enter the Kingdom of Heaven; and again I tell you: it is easier for a camel to go through the ears of a needle than for a rich man to enter the Kingdom of God. When His disciples heard this, they marveled greatly and said, “Who then can be saved?” Jesus looked up and said to them, “With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.” Then Peter answered and said to Him: Behold, we have left everything and followed You; what will happen to us? Jesus said to them, “Truly I say to you, that you who walked after Me, in the regeneration, when the Son of man sits on the throne of His glory, you also will sit on twelve thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel; and everyone who leaves a house, or brothers, or sisters, or father, or mother, or wife, or children, or village, for My name’s sake, will receive a hundredfold and inherit eternal life; but many who are first will be last, and those who are last will be first. And the Kingdom of Heaven is like a home-saving man, when he went out early in the morning to hire laborers for his vineyard, and, having agreed with the workers on a penalty for the day, he sent them into his vineyard. And going out at the third hour, he saw others standing idle in the marketplace, and to them he said, Go ye also into my vineyard, and whatever is proper I will give you. And off they went. And again, going out at the sixth and ninth hours, he did the same. Then he went out at the eleventh hour and found others standing idle, and said to them: Why are you standing here all day, idle? They tell him: no one hired us. He says to them: You also go into my vineyard, and whatever comes next you will receive. When evening came; The lord of the vineyard says to his steward, Call the workers and give them wages, beginning from the last to the first. And those who came at the eleventh hour received a penalty. Those who came first thought that they would receive more; but they also received a penalty; and having received it, they began to murmur against the master and they said that the last ones worked for one hour, and you created them equal to us, who bore the burden of the day and the heat. He answered and said to one of them: friend! I don't offend you; Didn't you agree with me for a penalty? take yours and go; I want to give this last one the same as I gave you; Do I not have the power to create whatever I want on my estate? or is your eye jealous that I am good? So the last will be first, and the first last; For many are called, but few are chosen. And Jesus, going up to Jerusalem, called the twelve disciples along the way and privately said to them: Behold, we are going up to Jerusalem, and the Son of man will be handed over to the chief priests and scribes, and they will condemn Him to death; and they will deliver Him over to the pagans to be mocked and beaten and crucified; and on the third day he will rise again. Then the mother of the sons of Zebedee and her sons came to Him, bowing and asking Him for something. He said to her: what do you want? He said to Him: command that these two sons of mine sit, one at Your right hand, and the other at Your left hand, in Your Kingdom. Jesus answered and said: You do not know what you ask. Can you drink the cup that I will drink, or be baptized with the baptism with which I am baptized? They say to Him: We can. And he said to them: You will drink this cup of mine, and with the baptism with which I am baptized you will be baptized; but to sit on My right hand and on My left side is not for Me to give to you, but to whom My Father has prepared. And when the other ten heard this, they were indignant against both brothers. Jesus, having called them, said: You know that the princes of the nations rule over them, and the nobles have possession of them; but let it not be so among you; but whoever wants to be great among you must be your servant; and whoever wants to be first among you must be your slave; just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve and give His soul as a deliverance for many. And when He left Jericho; a multitude of people followed Him. And behold, two blind men who were sitting by the way, hearing that Jesus was passing by, cried out: have mercy on us, O Lord, son of David! The people forced them to remain silent; but they cried even louder: have mercy on us, O Lord, son of David! Jesus stopped, called them and said: what do you want from Me? They say to Him: Lord! let our eyes be opened. Jesus, being merciful, touched their eyes; and immediately their eyes received sight, and they followed Him. And when they drew near to Jerusalem and came to Bethphage to the Mount of Olives; then Jesus sent two disciples, saying to them, Go to the village that is right in front of you; and immediately you will find a donkey tied and a colt with her; untie it, bring it to Me; and if anyone tells you that; answer that the Lord requires them; and will immediately let them go. Nevertheless, this happened, so that the word spoken by the prophet might be fulfilled: say to the daughter of Zion: behold, your king comes to you meekly, riding on a donkey and a colt, the son of a yoke (Isa.62:11. Zech.9:9). The disciples went and did as Jesus commanded them; They brought the donkey and the colt, and put their clothes on them, and sat down on top of them. Many people spread their clothes along the way, while others cut branches from trees and spread them along the way. The people, both in front and behind, exclaimed: Hosanna to the Son of David! blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord! Hosanna in the highest! And when He entered into Jerusalem; The whole city shook, asking: Who is this? The people said: This is Jesus, the prophet from Nazareth of Galilee. And Jesus entered the church of God, and drove out all those who were selling and buying in the church, and overturned the tables of the money changers and the seats of those who sold doves, and he said unto them, It is written, My house shall be called a house of prayer; and you created from it a den of thieves (Isa.56:7. Jer.7:11). And the blind and lame came to Him in the church, and He healed them. When the high priests and scribes saw the miracles that He performed, and the youths in the church calling and saying: Hosanna to the Son of David! were indignant and they said to Him, Do you hear what they say? Jesus said to them: Yes! Have you never read: from the mouths of babes and those who piss You have brought praise (Ps. 8:3)? And leaving them, he went out of the city to Bethany and settled there. The next morning, returning to the city, he became hungry; and, seeing a fig tree standing alone by the way, he approached it, and found nothing on it, only leaves, and said to it: May there never be fruit from you forever. And immediately the fig tree withered. Seeing this, the disciples marveled and said, “How did the fig tree immediately wither?” Jesus answered and said to them, “Truly I say to you; If you have faith and do not doubt, not only do what happened to the fig tree, but if you say to this mountain, “Move and be thrown into the sea,” it will happen; and whatever you ask in prayer with faith, you will receive. And when He came to the church and taught, the high priests and the elders of the people came to Him and said: By what authority are You doing these things? and who gave you this power? Jesus answered and said to them: I also ask you one word; if you tell Me, I will tell you by what authority I do this; John's baptism was from where; from heaven or from people? They reasoned among themselves: if we speak from heaven, he will say to us: why didn’t you believe him? and if we say: from people; we are afraid of the people; for everyone regards John as a prophet. And they answered Jesus: We do not know. He also said to them: And I will not tell you by what authority I do this. What do you think? A certain man had two sons; and he came to the first one and said: child! Go, work today in my vineyard. He answered: I don’t want to; and then, repenting, he left. And he came to another and said the same thing. He answered and said: I am coming, sir; and didn't go. Which of the two created the will of God? They tell Him: first. And Jesus said to them: Truly I say to you, tax collectors and fornicators are going ahead of you into the kingdom of God; For John the Baptist came to you in a righteous way, and they did not believe him, but the tax collectors and fornicators believed him; But you, having seen it, did not repent after - believe him. Listen to another parable: a certain man was a housewife, he planted a vineyard, surrounded it with a fence, dug a winepress in it, built a pillar, and, giving it to the vinedressers, went away. When the time for fruits drew near; He sent his servants to the laborers to receive its fruits; The workers, seizing his servants, beat some, killed others, and stoned others. Again he sent other servants, more than before; and they did the same to them. Finally he sent his son to them, saying: They will be ashamed of my son. But the workers, seeing the son, said to each other: this is the heir; Let's go, kill him and take possession of his property. And they seized him, took him out of the vineyard and killed him. So, when the lord of the vineyard comes, what will he do to the workers? They say to Him: He will destroy the wicked with an evil death, and will give the vineyard to other workers, and they will hand over the fruit to him in due time. Jesus says to them: either you have never read this scripture: the stone that the builders rejected has become the cornerstone; did this come from the Lord, and it is marvelous in our eyes (Ps. 118:22-23)? For this reason I tell you that the Kingdom of God will be taken away from you and given to a people who produce its fruits; and whoever falls on this stone will be crushed, and whoever it falls on will crush him. And when the chief priests and Pharisees heard His parables, they understood that He was speaking about them, and they sought to seize Him; but they were afraid of the people, since they considered Him a prophet. And Jesus continued speaking to them again in parables: The Kingdom of Heaven became like a man king; he made a wedding feast for his son and he sent his servants to invite those invited to the marriage; and didn't want to come. Again he sent other servants, saying: Tell those who were invited: my dinner is prepared, my fatted calves are slaughtered, and everything is ready; come to the marriage. They, carelessly, left, some to their field, and some to their market; the others, seizing his slaves, insulted and killed them. Hearing this, this king became angry; and, sending his soldiers, he destroyed their murderers and burned their city. Then he says to his servants: The wedding feast is ready, but those who were invited were not worthy; Go now to the crossroads, and invite everyone you find to marriage. And those servants went out to the crossroads and gathered everyone they found, both evil and good; and the wedding feast was filled with those reclining. The king entered and looked at those reclining, and saw a man there, not dressed in wedding clothes, and says to him: friend! How did you come here not wearing wedding clothes? He was silent. Then the king said to the servants: having tied his hands and feet, take him and throw him into utter darkness; there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth; For many are called, but few are chosen. Then the Pharisees came together and discussed how to catch Him in words. And they send their disciples to Him with the Herodians, saying: Teacher! we know that You are true, and You truly teach the way of God, and do not care for anyone, and do not look at a person’s face; Tell us: what do you think - is it worthy to give taxes to Caesar or not? Understanding their wickedness, Jesus said: Why are you tempting Me, you hypocrites? show me the payment coin. And they brought Him a penalty. And he said to them: whose image and inscription is this? The answer is: Caesarian. Then he says to them, “Render then the things that are Caesar’s to Caesar, and the things that are God’s to God.” And when they heard this, they marveled and left Him and went away. That day the Sadducees came to Him - they say there is no resurrection - and asked Him: Teacher! Moses said: if anyone dies without children, let his brother take his wife for himself and raise up seed for his brother (Deut. 25:5). We had seven brothers; the first, having married, died and, having no children, left his wife to his brother; also the second, and the third, even to the seventh; after all, the wife died. So, in the resurrection, which of the seven will she be the wife of? for everyone had it. Jesus answered and said to them, “You are deceived, not knowing the Scripture or the power of God; in the resurrection they will neither marry nor be given in marriage, but will be like the Angels of God in heaven; And regarding the resurrection of the dead, have you not read what God said to you: Am I the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob? not the God of the dead, but the God of the living (Ex. 3:6). And when the people heard it, they marveled at His teaching. The Pharisees, hearing that He had put the Sadducees to shame, gathered together. And one of them, a lawyer, asked, tempting Him, and said this: Teacher! What is the greatest commandment in the law? Jesus said to him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind: this is the first and great commandment; the second is similar to it: love your neighbor as yourself; On these two commandments stand the whole law and the prophets. When the Pharisees gathered together; Jesus asked them: what do you think about Christ? whose son is he? They say to Him: David. He said to them: How then does David, according to the Spirit, call Him Lord? says this: The Lord said to my Lord: Lead me at my right hand, until I make your enemies your footstool (Ps. 109:1)? and when David calls Him Lord; How can He be his son? And no one could answer Him a word; and from that day no one dared to question Him. Then Jesus began to speak to the people and His disciples like this: the scribes and Pharisees sat on Moses' seat; So whatever they tell you to observe, observe and do; But do not do according to their deeds: for they speak and do not do it; they bind heavy and unbearable burdens and lay them on the shoulders of people, but they themselves do not want to move them with their finger. Yet they do their deeds so that people can see them; They enlarge their storehouses 10 and spread out the frills of their garments; they love first places at suppers and presiding positions at gatherings, and so that they bow to them in the market places, and so that people call them: teacher! teacher! Do not call yourself teachers, for you have one Teacher, Christ; yet you are brothers. And do not call anyone on earth your father, for you have one Father, who is in heaven. And do not be called teachers: for you have only one Teacher, Christ. Let the greatest of you be your servant. For whoever exalts himself will humble himself, and whoever humbles himself will be exalted. Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites, because you close the Kingdom of Heaven to men; Do not enter yourself, and do not allow those who want to enter. Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites, because you devour the houses of widows and make hypocritically long prayers; for this you will receive even more condemnation. Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites, who pass through sea and land - to create one stranger; and when you receive it, make him a son of Gehenna, twice as bad as you. Woe to you, blind leaders, for saying: whoever swears by the church, it is nothing; and whoever swears by church gold is guilty. Mad and blind! What is greater, the gold, or the church that sanctifies the gold? And whoever swears by the altar, then nothing; and whoever swears for nothing on the altar is guilty. Mad and blind! What is more, the gift, or the altar by which the gift is sanctified? And whoever swears by the altar, swears by it and by everything on the altar; and whoever swears by the church, swears by it and by Him who lives in it; and whoever swears by heaven swears by the throne of God and Him who sits on it. Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites, because you tithe mint, anise, and cumin, and have forsaken what is first in the law, judgment and mercy and faith; it was fitting to do this and not abandon it. Blind leaders, you strain out a mosquito and swallow a camel! Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites, because you purify the outer flasks and dishes, but inside they are full of robbery and untruth. Blind Pharisee! First clean the inside of the flasks and dishes, so that their outside will also be clean. Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites, for you are like painted tombs, appearing beautiful on the outside, but inside are full of the bones of the dead and all uncleanness; So you, on the outside, seem righteous to people, but on the inside you are filled with hypocrisy and lawlessness. Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites, who build the tombs of the prophets and decorate the monuments of the righteous, and say, If only we had been in the days of our fathers; would not have been their accomplices in the blood of the prophets; By this you testify to yourselves that you are the sons of those who killed the prophets; and you will fulfill the measure of your fathers. Serpents, spawn of vipers! How can you escape from the judgment of the fire of Gehenna? For this reason, behold, I will send you prophets, and wise men, and scribes; and some of them you will kill and crucify, others you will beat in your hosts and drive from city to city; May all righteous blood shed on earth come upon you, from the blood of righteous Abel to the blood of Zechariah, son of Barachi, whom you killed between the church and the altar. Truly I tell you, all these things will come upon this generation. Jerusalem, Jerusalem, you beat up the prophets and stoned those sent to you! How many times have I wanted to gather your children together, as a bird gathers its chicks under its wings, and they did not want to! Behold, your house is left to you empty. For I tell you, you will not see Me from here until you exclaim: Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord! And Jesus departed from the church; and His disciples came to Him to show Him the buildings of the church. Jesus said to them: Do you see all this? Truly I say to you, not one stone will be left upon another here; everything will be destroyed. When He sat on the Mount of Olives; The disciples approached Him in private and asked: Tell us, when will this happen, and what is the sign of Your coming and the end of the age? Jesus answered and said to them: Take heed that no one deceive you; For many will come in My name and say, “I am the Christ,” and they will deceive many. You will hear about abuse and abusive rumors. See that you are not horrified: for all this must come to pass; but that's not the end yet. Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom; and there will be famines, pestilences and earthquakes in places; yet this is the beginning of disease. Then they will hand you over to suffer and kill you; and you will be hated by all nations for My name's sake. And then many will be offended; and they will betray each other and hate each other; and many false prophets will arise and deceive many; and because iniquity will increase, the love of many will fail. He who endures to the end will be saved. And this gospel of the kingdom will be preached throughout the whole world as a testimony to all nations; and then the end will come. And when you see the abomination of desolation, spoken of by Daniel the prophet, standing in the holy place (let him who honors it understand): Then let those who are in Judea flee to the mountains; and let him who is on the housetop not come down to take anything from his house; and let him who is in the field not return to take his clothes. Woe to those who are not idle and who feed with breasts in those days! Pray, so that your flight will not be in winter or on Saturday. For then there will be great tribulation, such as has not been from the beginning of the world until now, and never will be. And when these days had not ceased, no flesh would have been saved; but for the sake of the elect these days will cease. Then if anyone says to you: Behold, here is Christ, or there; don't believe it. For false Christs and false prophets will arise and show great signs and wonders to deceive, if possible, even the elect. Behold, I told you in advance. And if they say to you, Behold, He is in the wilderness, do not go out; behold, He is in hidden places, do not believe; For as lightning comes from the east and appears to the west, so will be the coming of the Son of man; for where the carcass is, there the eagles will gather. And suddenly, after the sorrow of those days, the sun will darken, and the moon will not give its light, and the stars will fall from heaven, and the powers of heaven will move; and then the sign of the Son of man will appear in heaven; and then all the tribes of the earth will mourn and will see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of heaven with power and much glory; and He will send His angels with a great trumpet sound, and they will gather His elect from the four winds, from one end of the heavens to the other. From the fig tree learn a parable: when its branches become soft and put out leaves; you know that summer is coming; So, when you see all this, know what is close, at the door. Truly I say to you, this generation will not pass away, when all these things are done; heaven and earth will pass away, but My words will not pass away. No one knows about that day and hour, not even the angels of heaven, except My Father alone. And as it was in the days of Noah; so it will be at the coming of the Son of man: how they lived in the days before the flood, eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day Noah entered into the ark, and they did not think until the water came and drowned everyone: so will the coming of the Son of Man be; then two will be on the field: one will be eaten, and the other will be left; two grinding on a millstone: one is eaten, and the other is left. So watch; for you do not know at what hour your Lord will come. But know this, that whenever the ruler of the house knew at what watch the thief would come; He would have been vigilant and would not have allowed his house to be undermined. Therefore, be ready; For at that hour, as you do not think, the Son of Man will come. Who is the faithful servant and the wise, whom the lord will appoint over his house, to give them food at the right time? Blessed is the servant whom his master, when he comes, finds faithful in that matter; Truly I say to you, he will set him over all his possessions. If that evil servant says in his heart: My master will not come soon; and will begin to beat his comrades and eat and drink with drunkards; the master of that servant will come on a day when he does not tea, and at an hour when he does not think; and he will cut it in pieces, and place part of it with the unbelievers; there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth. Then the Kingdom of Heaven will be likened to ten virgins, who, taking their lamps, went out to meet the bridegroom; five of them were wise, and five were foolish. But the foolish ones took their lamps and took no oil with them; The wise took oil in vessels with their lamps. And as the groom slowed down, everyone dozed off and slept. But at midnight a voice rang out: behold, the bridegroom is coming, go out to meet him. Then all those virgins rose up and put away their lamps. But the foolish said to the wise: Give us your oil; our lamps are going out. But the wise answered: lest we and you lack; Better go to those who sell and buy for yourself. When did they go to buy? the bridegroom came, and those who were ready went in with him to the wedding feast, and the doors were shut. Afterwards other virgins come and call: Lord! God! open to us. He answered and said to them, “Truly I say to you, I do not know you.” Watch therefore, for you know neither the day nor the hour when the Son of man will come. As a man departing, he called his servants and gave them his property: to one he gave five talents, to another two, to another one. to each according to his strength; and then walked away. He who received five talents went and put them to work and acquired another five talents; likewise, the one who received two talents acquired another two; and to whomever he gave one talent, he went and buried it in the ground and hid his master’s money. After a long time, the master of those slaves comes and demands an account from them. And the one who had received five talents came up and brought another five talents and said: Master! you gave me five talents; Behold, I acquired another five talents with them. And his master said to him, “It is good.” good and faithful servant! in small things you were faithful; I will set you over many; enter into the joy of your master. The one who had received two talents came up and said: Master! you gave me two talents; behold, I acquired the other two talents with them. And his master said to him: Good. good and faithful servant! in small things you were faithful; I will set you over many; enter into the joy of your master. The one who received one talent came up and said: Master! I knew you that you were a stern man, reaping where you did not sow and gathering where you did not scatter; and, being afraid, you went and hid your talent in the ground; here, it's yours. His master answered him: “You wicked and lazy servant!” you knew that I reap where I did not sow, and gather where I did not scatter; Therefore, it was fitting for you to give my silver to the market, and when I came, I would receive mine with a profit; So take the talent from him and give it to the one who has ten talents; For to him who has everything will be given everywhere and he will have abundance; from the poor will be taken away even what he thinks he has; and cast the unswitchable slave into utter darkness; there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth. Having said this, he exclaimed: whoever has ears to hear, let him hear! When the Son of man comes in His glory and all the holy Angels with Him; then He will sit on the throne of His glory; and all nations will be gathered before Him; and will separate one from another, as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats; and He will set the sheep at His right hand, and the goats at His left. Then the King will say to those on his right hand: Go, you blessed of My Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world: For I was hungry, and you gave Me food; I was thirsty and you gave Me something to drink; I was a stranger and you accepted Me; I was naked and you clothed Me; I was sick and they visited Me; I was in prison, and they came to Me. Then the righteous answer Him: Lord! when did we see you hungry and feed you? or to the thirsty and gave them something to drink? when did they see you as a stranger and accept you? or naked and clothed? When did they see You sick, or in prison, and come to You? And the King answered them: Truly I say to you, whatever you did to one of the least of these brothers of Mine, you did to Me. Then He also speaks to those who are on His side: Depart from Me, you cursed, into eternal fire, prepared for the devil and his angels: For I was hungry, and you gave Me no food; I was thirsty, and you gave Me no drink; I was a stranger, and they did not accept Me; I was naked, and they did not clothe Me; sick and in prison, and they did not visit Me. Then they answer Him: Lord! when did we see You hungry, or thirsty, or a stranger, or naked, or sick, or in prison, and did not serve You? Then he answers them, “Truly I say to you, just as you did not do to one of the least of these, neither did you do it to Me.” And these will go into eternal punishment, but the righteous into eternal life. When Jesus had finished all these sayings, he said to his disciples: you know that in two days the Passover will take place, and the Son of Man will be handed over to be crucified. Then the chief priests and the scribes and the elders of the people gathered together in the courtyard of the high priest, whose name was Caiaphas, and they conspired to take Jesus by stealth and kill him; but they said: just not on a holiday, so as not to cause confusion among people. Now while Jesus was in Bethany, in the house of Simon the leper; The wife came to Him with precious alabaster and poured it on His head as he reclined. Seeing this, His disciples were indignant and said: Why is this a waste? the myrrh could have been sold for a high price and given to the poor. When Jesus understood, he said to them, “Why are you embarrassing your wife?” she did a good deed for Me; You always have the poor with you, but you do not always have Me; having poured this ointment on My body, she prepared Me for burial; Truly I say to you, wherever this gospel is preached throughout the whole world, what she has done will also be told in her memory. Then one of the twelve, called Judas Iscariot, went to the bishops and said: Whatever you give me, I will deliver Him to you. They offered him thirty pieces of silver; and from then on he looked for a convenient time to betray Him. On the very first day of unleavened bread the disciples came to Jesus, saying to Him: Where do you want, will we prepare the Passover for you? He said: go to the city to so-and-so and tell him: The Teacher says: My time is near; I will make the Passover with you with my disciples. And the disciples did as Jesus commanded them; and prepared the Passover. When evening came; He lay down with the twelve disciples, and as they ate, he said, “Truly I say to you, one of you will betray Me.” They were deeply offended and began to say to Him, each of them: Isn’t it me, Lord? He answered and said: Whoever dips his hand in the dish with Me will betray Me; but the Son of man comes, as it is written about Him: woe to that man by whom the Son of man is betrayed; It would have been better if that person had not been born. At this Judas, His betrayer, said: Isn’t it me, Rabbi? Jesus says to him: You said it. And while they were eating, Jesus took bread, blessed it, broke it, and gave it to the disciples, saying: Take, eat; this is My body. And, having accepted the cup and giving thanks, he gave it to them and said: drink from it, all of you; For this is My blood of the new testament, which is shed for many for the remission of sins. But I tell you that from now on I will not drink of this fruit of the vine until the day when I drink new wine with you in the kingdom of My Father. And having sung, they went to the Mount of Olives. Then Jesus said to them: You will all be offended because of Me this night, for it is written: I will smite the shepherd, and the sheep of the flock will be scattered (Zech. 13:7); After My resurrection I will go before you to Galilee. Peter answered and said to Him, “Even if all are offended because of You; I will never be tempted. Jesus said to him, “Truly I tell you, this night, before the rooster crows, you will deny Me three times.” Peter said to Him: Even if I die with You, I will not deny You. All the disciples said the same thing. Then Jesus comes with them to a place called Gethsemane and says to the disciples: Sit here while I go and pray there. And, taking Peter and both sons of Zebedee, he began to grieve and yearn. Then Jesus said to them: My soul is sorrowful unto death; wait here and watch with Me. And going away a little, he fell on his face, praying, and said: My Father! if possible, let this cup pass by from Me; but be not as I want, but as You are. And he comes to the disciples and finds them sleeping, and says to Peter: “Could you not watch with me for one hour?” watch and pray so that you do not fall into temptation; the spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak. And again, going away another time, he prayed, saying: My Father! if this cup cannot pass by from Me, lest I drink it, Thy will be done. And, having come, he finds them sleeping again; for their eyes are heavy. And leaving them, he went away again and prayed a third time, saying the same word. Then he comes to his disciples and says to them: you are still sleeping and resting; behold, the hour has come, and the Son of man is being delivered into the hands of sinners; Arise, let us go: behold, he who betrayed Me has drawn near. And while He was still speaking, behold, Judas, one of the twelve, came, and with him a great multitude with weapons and swords from the high priests and elders of the people. His betrayer gave them a sign, saying: “Whoever I kiss is the same; take Him.” And he immediately approached Jesus and said: Rejoice, Rabbi! And he kissed Him. Jesus said to him, “Friend, do what you came to do.” Then they came and laid their hands on Jesus and took Him. And behold, one of those who were with Jesus stretched out his hand, drew his sword, and striking the servant of the high priest, cut off his ear. Then Jesus said to him: Return your sword to its place; for all who take the sword will perish by the sword; or do you think that I cannot now pray to My Father and present to Me more than twelve legions of Angels? How will the Scriptures be fulfilled, that this is how it should be? At that hour Jesus said to the people, “You came out as if against a thief with weapons and swords to take Me; Every day I sat with you, teaching in the church, and you did not take Me. All this happened so that the writings of the prophets might be fulfilled. Then all the disciples left Him and fled. The soldiers took Jesus and led Him to Caiaphas the high priest, where the scribes and elders had gathered. Peter followed Him at a distance to the courtyard of the high priest; and he went inside and sat down with the servants to see the end. The chief priests and elders and the whole congregation sought false testimony against Jesus in order to put Him to death; and were not found; and, although many false witnesses came, they were not found. But finally two false witnesses came and they said: He said: I can destroy the church of God and build it in three days. And the high priest stood up and said to Him, “Do you answer nothing?” What do they testify against You? Jesus was silent. And then the high priest said to Him: I adjure You by the living God, tell us, Are You the Christ, the Son of God? Jesus says to him: You said; and I say to you, from now on you will see the Son of man sitting at the right hand of power and coming on the clouds of heaven. Then the high priest took off his vestments and said: He speaks blasphemy; What more need do we need witnesses? Behold, you have now heard his blasphemy; what do you think? They answered and said: He is guilty of death. Then they spit on His face and strangled Him; others struck Him on the cheeks and they said: Prophesy to us, O Christ, who struck You? Peter was sitting outside in the courtyard. And a certain servant girl came to him and said, “You too were with Jesus of Galilee.” But he denied it before everyone, saying: I don’t know what you are saying. When he went out to the gate, another saw him, and said to those who were there, “This one too was with Jesus of Nazareth.” And again he denied with an oath that he did not know this man. A little later those who stood there came up and said to Peter, Surely you are also one of them; for your speech also convicts you. Then he began to swear and swear that he did not know this man. And suddenly the rooster crowed. And Peter remembered the word that Jesus had spoken to him: Before the rooster crows, you will deny Me three times. And he went out and cried bitterly. And on the morning all the chief priests and the elders of men took counsel concerning Jesus, to put Him to death; and having tied Him up, they led Him away and handed Him over to Pontius Pilate, the hegemon. Then Judas, who had betrayed Him, saw that they had condemned Him, and repented, and returned the thirty pieces of silver to the high priests and elders, saying: I have sinned by betraying innocent blood. They said to him: What is that to us? your business. And, throwing down the pieces of silver in the church, he went out and went and hanged himself. The high priests, taking the pieces of silver, said: It is not worthy to put them in the church treasury; That's the price of blood. But having made a council, they bought a potter's land with them for the burial of strangers; Therefore that land is called the land of blood, to this day. Then the word spoken by the prophet Jeremiah was fulfilled: and they took thirty pieces of silver, the price of the One who was valued, whom the children of Israel valued, and they gave them for the potter's land, as the Lord said to me. Jesus stood before the hegemon. And the hegemon asked Him: Are you the King of the Jews? Jesus said to him: You speak. And when the high priests and elders accused Him, He answered nothing. Then Pilate said to Him: Do you hear how many testify against You? And he did not answer a single word, so the hegemon was greatly amazed. On the Easter holiday, it was the custom of the hegemon to release to the people one prisoner whom they wanted; At that time they had a famous prisoner called Barabbas; So, when they had gathered, Pilate said to them: whom do you want, will I release to you, Barabbas, or Jesus, who is called Christ? For he knew that they had betrayed Him out of envy. And when he was sitting on the court, his wife sent him to tell him: leave this righteous man - I suffered a lot today in a dream for His sake. But the high priests and elders stirred up the people to ask Barabbas and to destroy Jesus. Then the hegemon asked them: which of both of them do you want to release to you? They said: Barabbas. Pilate said to them: What will I do to Jesus, who is called Christ? Everyone tells him: let him be crucified. The hegemon said: what evil has He done? But they cried out even more loudly: let him be crucified. Pilate, seeing that nothing was helping, but that the turmoil was still increasing, having taken water, washed his hands before the people and said: I am not guilty of the blood of this righteous man; look, it's your business. And all the people answered and said, “His blood be on us and on our children.” Then he released Barabbas to them, and beat Jesus and handed him over to be crucified. Then the hegemon’s soldiers, taking Jesus to the trial, gathered the whole regiment against Him, and having undressed Him, they put purple robe on Him; and having woven a crown of thorns, they placed it on His head, and gave a reed to His right hand, and, kneeling before Him, they cursed Him, saying: Hail, King of the Jews! And, spitting on Him, they took a reed and beat His head. And when they mocked Him, they took off His scarlet robe, and clothed Him in His garments, and led Him away to be crucified. As they were going out, they met a man from Cyrene named Simon; this one was forced to bear His cross. And, having arrived at the place. called Golgotha, which means: Place of Execution, They gave Him vinegar mixed with bile to drink; and having tasted it, he did not want to drink. Those who crucified Him divided His garments, casting lots; and sitting, they guarded Him there. And they laid over His head His indictment, which was written: This is Jesus, the King of the Jews. Then they crucified two thieves with Him; one on the right hand and one on the left. Those who passed by blasphemed Him, shaking their heads, and they said: Behold, he destroyed the church and built it in three days! save yourself. If You are the Son of God; come down from the cross. Likewise, the high priests with the scribes and elders and Pharisees, cursing, said: He saved others, but he cannot save himself. If He is the King of Israel; Let him now come down from the cross, and let us believe in Him; trusted in God; Let him now deliver Him, if He pleases. He said: I am the Son of God. Likewise, the thieves who were crucified with Him reviled Him. From the sixth hour darkness became over the whole earth until the ninth hour; and at the ninth hour Jesus cried out with a great voice: Either, Or; lima sabachthani? that is: My God, My God! Where have you left me? Some of those standing there, hearing this, said: He is calling Elijah. And immediately one of them ran up, took a sponge and filled it with vinegar and, putting it on a reed, gave Him to drink. And others said: wait; let's see if Elijah will come to save Him. Jesus cried out again with a great voice and gave up the spirit. And behold, the curtain of the church was torn in two, from the highest edge to the lower; and the earth shook; and the stones dissipated; and the tombs were opened; and many bodies of the saints who had fallen asleep arose and coming out of the tombs, after His resurrection they entered the holy city and appeared to many. The centurion and those with him on guard with Jesus, seeing the earthquake and everything that happened, were greatly afraid and said: Truly this was the Son of God. There were also many women there, looking on from afar, those who had followed Jesus from Galilee, serving Him; among them were Mary Magdalene and Mary the mother of James and Josiah, and the mother of the sons of Zebedee. When evening came; a rich man came from Arimathea, named Joseph, who himself studied with Jesus; this one came to Pilate and asked for the body of Jesus. Then Pilate ordered the body to be given up. And Joseph took the body and wrapped it in a clean linen 11 and he laid him in his new tomb, which he had carved in the rock; and, having rolled a great stone against the door of the tomb, he departed. Mary Magdalene and the other Mary were there, and they were sitting opposite the tomb. On the morning of the day following Friday, the chief priests and Pharisees gathered to Pilate and they said: Master! We remembered that this flatterer, while still alive, said: In three days I will rise; So, they commanded that the tomb be guarded until the third day, so that His disciples, coming at night, would not steal Him, and then they would say to the people: He has risen from the dead. And the last flattery will be worse than the first. And Pilate said to them: You have a guard; go and protect it as best you can. They went and placed a guard at the tomb and put a seal on the stone. On Saturday evening, at dawn on the first day of the week, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary came to see the tomb. And behold, there was a great earthquake; The Angel of the Lord, descending from heaven, came, rolled away the stone from the door of the tomb and sat on it; his appearance was like lightning, and his robe was white as snow. The former guards shook with fear, and they became as if they were dead. The angel, turning to the women, said: Do not be afraid; I know that you are looking for Jesus crucified; He is not here; He rose again, as He said; come, see the place where the Lord lay, and go quickly, tell His disciples that He has risen from the dead and is going before you to Galilee; there you will see Him. Here, I told you. And, quickly coming out of the tomb, they ran with fear and great joy to tell His disciples. When they went to tell His disciples, behold, Jesus met them and said: Rejoice! They came up, grabbed His feet and worshiped Him. Then Jesus says to them: Do not be afraid; go, tell my brethren, let them go to Galilee, and there they will see me. As they walked, some of the guards entered the city and told the high priests about everything that had happened. And having gathered with the elders and held a council, they gave enough pieces of silver to the soldiers, saying this: say that His disciples came at night and stole Him while we were sleeping; and if the hegemon hears this, we will settle it and deliver you from trouble. They, taking the pieces of silver, did as they were taught, and this word spread among the Jews to this day. And the eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain. where Jesus commanded them, and when they saw Him, they worshiped Him; others doubted it. And Jesus came and said to them, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me; But you go and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age. Amen. Two drachmas are a certain tribute to the church. Bandages on the forehead and hands with words from the law. You might be interested in:
