About the appointment of an embassy to the Donatists for the sake of an agreement for peace.
In addition, after all these acts, it was desired to send representatives from our midst to the bishops of the same Donatists, if they have them, or to the laity to proclaim peace and unity, without which the salvation of Christians cannot take place. Let it be known to all through these representatives that the Donatists have no grounds for opposing the Catholic Church. Especially, for the sake of greater persuasiveness, let everyone know from the city protocols how they themselves dealt with the Maximianists, their renegades. There, if they want to object, for them, by the will of God, there is evidence that then the Donatists broke away from church unity just as lawlessly as the Maximianists have now lawlessly broken away from them, which is what they are shouting about. Some of those whom they had clearly condemned by the authority of their council they thereafter received in their former degrees. They also recognized the baptism that was performed by those condemned and cast out by them, and thereby proved how recklessly they themselves opposed the peace of the Church, which had spread throughout the entire earth. For in favor of the society of Donatus, they do this and do not say that they are defiled by communication with those whom they received in this way, having been forced to reconcile with them, while with us, that is, with the Catholic Church, which has spread even to the last borders of the earth, they bicker and cannot bring themselves to reason through unclean communication with those whom they themselves previously condemned.
