On the need for clerics to live an immaculate life.
It was desirable that these 3 degrees, through consecration, bound by certain bonds of purity (meaning bishops, presbyters and deacons), as befits venerable bishops, priests of God, Levites and ministers of the Divine Mysteries, were abstinent in everything, so that they could receive what they simply ask from God, and that what was handed down through the apostles and enshrined from ancient times would also be observed by us in equally.

Αὐρήλιος ἐπίσκοπος εἶπεν· Ἐν τῇ προλαβούσῃ συνόδῳ ὡς περὶ ῥυθμοῦ ἐγκρατείας καὶ ἁγνείας ἐζητεῖτο, ἤρεσεν, ὥστε τοὺς τρεῖς βαθμοὺς τούτους, τοὺς συνδέσμῳ τινὶ τῆς ἁγνείας διὰ τῆς καθιερώσεως συμπεπλεγμένους, φημὶ δὲ ἐπισκόπους, πρεσβυτέρους, καὶ διακόνους, ὡς πρέπει ὀσίοις ἐπισκόποις, καὶ ἱερεῦσει Θεοῦ, καὶ Λευίταις καὶ ὑπουργοῦσι θείοις καθιερώμασιν, ἐγκρατεῖς εἶναι ἐν πᾶσιν, ὅπως δυνηθῶσιν, ὃ παρὰ τοῦ Θεοῦ ἁπλῶς αἰτοῦσιν, ἐπιτυχεῖν· ἵνα καὶ τὸ διὰ τῶν Ἀποστόλων παραδοθέν, καὶ ἐξ αὐτῆς τῆς ἀρχαιότητος κρατηθέν, καὶ ἡμεῖς ὁμοίως φυλάξωμεν.
