The old wooden churches, among the most visited tourist attractions in Maramureș during the summertranslated

The wooden churches in Maramureș, which are part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site and those in the circuit of churches in Transylvania, were among the most visited tourist attractions in the county during the summer season, according to the president of the National Association for Rural, Ecological and Cultural Tourism (ANTREC), Maramureș branch, Livia Sima, quoted by Agerpres.

There are eight churches in Maramureș on the UNESCO World Heritage list, specifically those in the localities of Bârsana, Budești, Desești, Ieud-Deal, Plopiș, Poienile Izei, Rogoz and Șudești.

"All the old wooden churches are part of the heritage of Maramureș and represent our identity and a special connection with the divinity. Some well-preserved churches keep paintings on wood and glass made by anonymous craftsmen in which the religious scenes were naively painted, thus the interpretation of the popular artist increases the value of the place of worship", stated Livia Sima.

According to the management of the association, there are groups of tourists who come to Maramureș just to admire the wooden churches.
