The memory of the city's founders and its heavenly patron was honored in Samaratranslated

On September 11, on the eve of City Day, in the Ascension Cathedral of Samara, Metropolitan Theodosius of Samara and Novokuybyshevsk, co-served by the clergy of the Samara Metropolis, performed a memorial service for the founder of Samara, Tsar Theodore Ioannovich, the first Samara governor, Prince Grigory Zasekin, as well as all the ancient builders and defenders of the Samara fortress. The funeral service was held in the Ascension Cathedral, the oldest surviving church in Samara. The clergy and those gathered offered prayers for the repose of those whose labors were associated with the founding of the city, its construction and protection. After the requiem, Metropolitan Theodosius and the clergy laid flowers at the monument to the heavenly patron of Samara - St. Alexy, Metropolitan of Moscow. Prayerful commemoration of the founders, builders and defenders of Samara became part of the events dedicated to City Day and aimed at preserving the historical memory and spiritual heritage of Samara.
