Thousands of women honor Mary as tradition unites generations

Grandmothers, mothers, daughters, and granddaughters have made pilgrimages to Our Lady of Piekary for generations, bringing their intentions and family stories. Pope Leo XIV greeted the pilgrims during his Angelus address in Castel One of the participants, Dominika Szczawińska, told Vatican News: “I used to come here as a young wife, praying for a child, then as a young mother, and today I am the mother of teenagers.”

I'm glad that this tradition keeps families together from grandparents to granddaughters. Dominika first came as a young wife and is now a mother of teenagers – it's clear how prayer grows with the family. At our liturgy I see almost the same thing, only at the Mother of God in Cluj.

In Odesa, too, women with their grandmothers go to the icon of the Mother of God in the Dormition Cathedral, and I see how they have been praying for the same children for years. It turned out exactly like this for Dominika: from a young wife to a mother of teenagers. It's good that the tradition continues.
