The priest gave farewell words to the students of Smorgon secondary school No. 6 before the start of the new school yeartranslated

September 1, 2026 · 1 min read

On the Day of Knowledge, the rector of the Church of the Holy Martyrs Anthony, John and Eustathius of Vilna, Priest Mikhail Verokha, visited the festive assembly at Smorgon Secondary School No. 6.

The priest wished all students that they would perceive the educational process not as a boring duty imposed by parents or teachers, but as an opportunity for personal development. Father Mikhail also blessed teachers and students for the upcoming school year.

That's a nice touch, framing learning as personal growth instead of just something parents push. Our priest did something similar at the church school picnic last week, and the kids actually listened for once. Hope the blessing sticks with them through the tough subjects.

Yeah, that personal growth angle makes a big difference instead of the usual "study or else" talk. Our youth group tried framing basketball drills the same way last month and the guys actually showed up ready. Did the kids at your picnic ask Father anything after?
