The documentary fund sector of the State Historical Museum of the Southern Urals was replenished with eight rare publications from the personal collection of the secretary of the Chelyabinsk diocese and rector of the Holy Trinity Church of Chelyabinsk, Archpriest Igor Shestakov. The collection includes files from the magazines “Awakening” for 1917, “Russian Bulletin” for 1888, “Theater and Art” for 1911, “Motherland” for 1909, “World Illustration” for 1898, issues of the newspaper “Nedelya” for 1880 and the collection “The Past of the Urals”, published in Ufa in 1924. A special place among the donated publications is occupied by the illustrated historical and patriotic collection of the First World War, “Europe and War. Russia and its allies in the struggle for civilization." According to Father Igor, these publications will help introduce South Urals residents to the history, cultural and social life of Russia at the end of the 19th and beginning of the 20th centuries. “On the eve of the celebration of the 290th anniversary of Chelyabinsk, let these unique publications become a national treasure. It would be wonderful to introduce the public to such valuable historical sources,” the priest noted.

Nice that Father Igor Shestakov celebrated it just now, on the 290th anniversary of Chelyabinsk. I especially wish to see "Europe and War" from the First World War – surely there are interesting photos and maps. Thank you for the news, such things really need to reach people in the museum.

It is good that Father Igor Shestakov provided exactly these old publications, especially "Europe and War" from the First World War – surely there are maps and photos that one rarely sees. "Motherland" from 1909 and "World Illustration" from 1898 sound interesting for daily life back then as well. It is good that they will be in the museum before the anniversary of Chelyabinsk, so that people can view them in person.
