On September 29, in the conference hall of the Spaso-Voznesensky Cathedral, a meeting was held with Viktor Ponomarev, a participant in the interregional public movement “Union for the Promotion and Preservation of Sobriety “Sober Russia”. The meeting was attended by parishioners of city churches and representatives of the Simbirsk Orthodox Youth movement.

Viktor Aleksandrovich noted three main areas of activity of the “Sober Russia” movement: work with children and teenagers, work with people with various types of addictions and work on laws that affect the improvement of society.

As a good example, Viktor Ponomarev cited the legislation of the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia), which regulates the location of stores that sell tobacco and alcohol at a considerable distance from kindergartens, schools, hospitals and social institutions. Alcohol in Yakutia is not sold in chain grocery stores, which influences the decline in its sales. Another positive example was the Chechen Republic - on the streets it is practically impossible to meet people who smoke cigarettes or vape; a sporty lifestyle is maintained.
