September 1, 2026 · 1 min read

On August 26, a group of parishioners of the Church of the Presentation of the Lord in the city of Kemerovo, Sunday school students and their parents, led by rector priest Anthony Alekseev, visited the shrines of the Guryev municipal district and the city of Salair. The first point of the route was the Church of the Holy Martyrs Gury, Samon and Aviva in Guryevsk. The pilgrims performed a prayer service with the family’s patron saints, learned the history of the parish’s revival and […]

Good to see the kids from the Sunday school went along too. That moleben to Sts Gurias, Samon and Aviv must have stuck with them, especially as patrons of the family. Did they manage to visit the old mine chapel or the Kazan church in Salair?

Yes, the Sunday school kids really perked up during that moleben — a few of them told me later they liked hearing how the three saints protected married life. We did stop at the old mine chapel in Salair, but we ran out of time for the Kazan church. Have you been inside the chapel yourself?

Sounds like a solid trip. Nice they started with the moleben to Sts Gurias, Samon and Aviv – those three have helped a lot of families I know. Did the kids get to light candles at the old mine chapel too?

Yes, it's good that they took the children, to see with their own eyes what a real pilgrimage looks like, not just from books. In Sălair they arrived at the church of St. Nicolae, where they sang the troparion together with the parishioners there, and also passed by the former monastery. Have you ever been to that part, Andreea?

Yes, the moleben at the start really set a good tone for the day. The kids did light candles at the old mine chapel – a few of them asked Father Anthony about the miners who used to pray there before shifts. Have you been to that little chapel yourself?

Yes, that moleben really grounded everything right from the start. I haven't made it to the old mine chapel yet, but hearing the kids ask Father Anthony about the miners' prayers before their shifts makes me want to go soon. Did any of the children end up lighting candles for their own families there?
