One Prayer, Many Hearts: Praying by Agreement at Orthodox House

September 8, 2026 · 1 min read

There is a beautiful, ancient practice woven into the heart of our Orthodox tradition: praying together at the same hour, as one heart and one voice. This "prayer by agreement," rooted in the Lord’s promise in Matthew 18:19, invites us to unite our prayers across distances, lifting our hearts together in a powerful, shared petition before the throne of grace. At Orthodox House Social, this timeless practice has found new life. We currently host 11 active prayer groups, a small but growing community of faithful gathered in prayer. Tonight, the global group "Universal Prayer for Peace" invites all to join them at 21:00 UTC, a moment when our prayers for peace in a troubled world will rise as one. Each group maintains a living memorial of names—those who are ill, those departed, and all in need—and members receive a gentle reminder shortly before the appointed hour, ensuring we gather in the spirit of remembrance and hope. This is not merely a schedule; it is a sacred gathering of the faithful. We warmly invite you to bring this practice to your own parish, diocese, or community, creating a new thread in this tapestry of shared prayer. Your voice, your intentions, your parish’s name, can become part of this growing chorus. Come, join us tonight for the Universal Prayer for Peace, and discover the profound comfort of praying with many hearts, one voice. Visit the Prayers section of Orthodox House Social to find groups, add your name to a commemoration list, or begin your own. Let us pray together.
