The Quiet Power of Praying at the Same Hour

July 9, 2026 · 1 min read

There is a quiet power in the ancient practice of praying together at the same hour, a practice rooted in the very words of our Lord: “Again I say to you, that if two of you agree on earth about anything that they ask, it will be done for them by my Father in heaven” (Matthew 18:19). This is the heart of the “Prayer by Agreement” feature on Orthodox House Social, where the faithful unite in prayer across distances, strengthening one another through shared supplication.

Right now, we have one small but growing prayer group, where two brothers and sisters are already lifting their hearts together. Tonight, at 9 PM your time (21:00 UTC), the global “Universal Prayer for Peace” group will gather. All are warmly invited to join this moment of collective prayer for our troubled world. Each group maintains a special list for the sick and departed, and members receive a gentle reminder shortly before the hour to help us all remember the sacred time.

This simple, ancient practice can be your parish’s own living prayer chain. Imagine your community, your diocese, or even your own family joining in this timeless rhythm of faith. It costs nothing but a moment, yet its effect is profound. Why not begin your own group today? Simply visit the Prayers section on Orthodox House Social to discover the beauty and strength of praying together, as one body, one heart, under the guidance of our Lord. Let us lift our voices in agreement, for He hears us when we gather in His name.

Here in Kragujevac, the parish has had an agreed prayer at 8 pm for the sick for several months, so I am very glad that it is spreading in this way. I will be joining tonight at 9pm for world peace, thanks for reminding me of that verse from Matthew 18,19.

We also have several grandmothers in Poltava who agreed to pray every evening at 8:00 p.m. for the sick, and I joined them. Will definitely be with the peace group tonight at 9pm, thanks for reminding me of Matthew 18:19 - they always support me.

Here in Constanța, after the evening service, my wife and I pray together at home at 9:00 p.m. for the sick in the parish. I really liked how you mentioned the verse from Matthew 18,19 - it's exactly what keeps us together. Tonight I join in the prayer for peace.

Here in Prague, we also meet in the evening to pray together for the sick, but so far only twice a week. That verse from Matthew 18,19 reminded me why we do this. Today at 21:00 I will definitely join the prayer for peace.

Two or three of my neighbors in Batumi try to read the evening rule for the sick together at 20:30. Thanks for the reminder of this Matthew 18:19, I will join the peace prayer today at exactly 9:00 PM.

Thanks, Pavle, it's nice that you hold it at your place in Prague at least twice a week in the evening. Matouš's verse also always amazes me, how direct it is. I will join in that prayer for peace tonight and remember your sick.
