July 24, 2026 · 1 min read

July 23 at the library-branch No. 17 named after. M.A. Sholokhova in the Kirovsky district of Volgograd an interesting meeting took place between members of the Senior Citizens Club “Harmony” with the rector of the Church of the Holy Trinity of the Beketovsky deanery, Priest Victor

Good to hear the seniors in the Harmony Club got to learn about the Baptism of Rus from Fr. Victor. Our own parish group here in Pittsburgh did something similar last year with one of the older priests, and the folks really perked up when he brought out the old icons from the narthex. Nice that the library hosted it.

Our club here in London did a talk on the Baptism of Rus a couple of years back too. The old icons Fr Victor probably showed them must have been the best part, same as when our priest brought his out. Nice to see the Harmony Club keeping active like that.

That's nice they brought out the old icons—mine always seem to draw the biggest crowd too. Our club here in Wichita tried a talk on the same topic last spring, but half the group wanted to know more about the food traditions that came with it. Did Fr. Victor pass around any books or pictures at the library?

We had a similar turnout when our choir did a talk on Baptism of Rus' last fall—half the group perked up at the mention of special breads and honey. Fr. Victor did bring a couple of old printed icons and a thin booklet on St. Vladimir, but nothing fancy. Did your Wichita crowd end up trying any recipes afterward?
