Assumption Lent begins Friday: Two weeks of spiritual cleansingtranslated

The Fast of the Assumption begins on Friday and will end on August 14, the eve of the feast of the Assumption. For two weeks, believers are called to fasting, prayer and spiritual cleansing.
As a rule, it is left to dry on July 31 and the fast begins on August 1, but according to church rules, if this date falls on a Wednesday or Friday, it is left to dry a day earlier. The same thing happened in 2024, 2020 and 2019.
Instituted by the Church in honor of the Mother of God, this fast urges the faithful to follow the example of prayer, humility and purity of the Mother of God. During this period, the daily reading of the Prayer of the Mother of God and other prayers dedicated to the Virgin Mary is recommended.
The order of the post From a dietary point of view, the Fast of the Assumption is considered easier than Lent, but harsher than the Fast of the Nativity and the Fast of the Holy Apostles Peter and Paul.
According to the Great Typic and the Teaching for Fasts of the Great Clock, Monday, Wednesday and Friday fast until the Ninth Hour (approximately 3:00 p.m.), when dry food is consumed.
