On July 10, employees of the department of social service and charity of the Mariinsky diocese sent humanitarian aid to needy residents of the village of Yurginskoye and nearby villages. Good to see the 700 kilos of clothes and shoes actually got delivered to Юргинский and those nearby villages. Our own parish collected coats last winter — it's always the big families that line up first. The volunteers at the St. Elizabeth center must be busy sorting all that.

It’s good that the things reached Yurginsky and neighboring villages. Last year we also collected shoes for families with many children, and warm boots and jackets are always the first to be sorted. Volunteers of the Elizabeth Center have probably already sorted everything out to families.

Our parish kitchen crew sent a few boxes of kids' winter boots to the same area last year, so it's good to hear the 700 kilos actually reached Юргинский and the nearby villages. Those big families always grab the warm stuff first, just like Xenia said. The St. Elizabeth volunteers must be run off their feet sorting it all. That's heartening to hear about your boots getting there last year – we sent some children's coats from our London parish collection around the same time. Do you know if the families in Новороманово ended up with most of the heavy winter gear again this round? The volunteers do seem constantly busy with it all.

Our volunteers also sent warm clothes last winter and it is always the large families in towns like Yurginsky who first ask for boots and jackets. I'm glad that those 700 kilos arrived safely and that the Santa Isabel center is already distributing everything. Does anyone know if they included children's shoes this time?

Yeah, we sent a decent pile of kids’ shoes this run, mostly sizes 30–38 that the volunteers sorted the night before. Our big families do the same thing, turn up with their lists and clear the practical stuff first. How did your coat drive handle the sizing?

Yeah, those 30–38 kids’ shoes always go first around here too — our volunteers end up sorting them twice because the big families grab the sturdy ones straight away. Our coat drive this spring worked better once we started tagging them by actual chest size instead of just “medium”; cut down on the returns. Did you run into much waste with the adult sizes this time?

Yes, Alexander, large Yrginsky families always need boots and jackets first, as you say. This time they did include several pairs of children's shoes, the volunteers who have already begun to distribute them in Novoromanovo told me. Have you seen how the Polomoshnoe families are doing with the clothes we sent last winter?

Yeah, the kids' shoes disappear in minutes here too — we saw the same rush from the big families in Yurginsky. Tagging by chest size is smart; we mostly go by age ranges but still get a few swaps. Didn't have much waste on the adult stuff this run, but the coats were pretty picked over by the end.
