Corfu Nektarios: "Today, man has turned to the earthly and domestic"translated

On Sunday, August 2, 2026, IX of Matthew, the Most Reverend Metropolitan of Corfu, Paxos and Diapontian Islands, Mr. Nektarios, officiated and spoke at the Holy Monastery of Ypsilos Pantokrator, which has been built for centuries at the highest point of Corfu, on Mount Pantokrator. In Corfu, the old reverent tradition is preserved, from the 1st to the 6th of August, that the people of Corfu flock at night, from the South to the North of the island, in order to worship the miraculous icon of the Almighty Savior. For this reason, the Holy Monastery remains open for twenty-four hours, while sacred services are held continuously, so that the pilgrims can participate prayerfully.

During the Divine Liturgy, His Eminence was flanked, among other Priests, by the High Priestly Commissioner of Northeast Corfu, Protopresbyter Ioannis Salvanos, His Eminence Archimandrite Andreas Giokas and his Deacons. The Mayor of North Corfu, Mr. Georgios Mahimaris and the Director of the General Hospital of Corfu, Mrs. Adamantia Englesopoulou.
