Ambrosios of Korea: "Some are trying to overturn the 28th Rule of the Fourth House Synod for political reasons"translated

The 28th Rule of the Fourth Ecumenical Council (Chalkidona, 451) and the attempt by some to overthrow it for political reasons was mentioned from Tokyo, where he was a few days ago in the context of a pastoral visit, the Metropolitan of Korea and Exarch of Japan Mr. Ambrosios. The Pastor emphasized that through this Rule the whole of the Far East and Southeast Asia belongs to the Ecumenical Patriarchate, sending a clear message to the Russian Church and the action and operation of the Exarchate there.  On Sunday, July 19, 2026, the day on which our Church honored the Fathers of the Fourth Ecumenical Synod in Chalcedon, His Eminence presided over the Divine Liturgy in Tokyo, co-celebrated by the guest Fr. Alban's, with the participation of Japanese, Slavonic, Greek, Romanian and English speakers.

Deacon Christophoros delivered the sermon after reading the Gospel, referring to the great struggles and sacrifices of the Holy Fathers in favor of the Orthodox faith, and ended with the answer to the question: "what do the Fathers ask of us...

Irene AndersonThe 28th Canon has been there since 451, so trying to rewrite it now for politics feels off. Interesting they used the Anglican church in Tokyo for the Liturgy; I wonder how that arrangement works with the Japanese locals. The deacon’s sermon on the Fathers’ sacrifices sounds like it hit the right note.
