M. Harakopoulos from Tbilisi: Christianity indelibly stamped the identity of Georgianstranslated

"We must, while respecting the European principles of democracy and human rights and freedoms, which constitute the quintessence of the European edifice, work for the restoration of international legitimacy, while promoting the Christian principles of settlement, mutual understanding, cooperation and peace."

The above was emphasized by the Secretary General of the Interparliamentary Assembly of Orthodoxy (DSO), Member of the Parliament of the Hellenes, Dr. Maximos Harakopoulos, speaking in Tbilisi at the international conference on "The foundations of European civilization and the 1,700 years of Christianity in Georgia", which is organized in the context of the events for the completion of 1,700 years since the declaration of Christianity as official religion in Georgia.

The Conference was also addressed by the Patriarch of All Georgia, Mr. Sio III, the President of Georgia, Mr. MikheilKavelashvili, the Prime Minister, Mr. IrakliKobakhidze, and the Speaker of the Parliament of Georgia, Mr. ShalvaPapuashvili. The guests included parliamentary delegations and representatives of Christian Churches and international church organizations.

Christianity has really shaped Georgia since the 4th century, but it's good that Maximos Harakopoulos also mentioned that we must work for peace through understanding, not just words. It was interesting to me that both Patriarch Ilija and Prime Minister Kobakhidze spoke at the same meeting. Here in Tetovo, we often say that faith holds us together, but actions must follow.
