This is my settled conclusion after reading "Stalactites", the first poetry collection of the former President of our Republic, Prokopis Pavlopoulos.

I am not a critic, but I know how difficult it is to write a good poem. I believe that "Stalactites" have many good poems in them.

T.S. Elliott said that poets are human, who must incorporate erudition into their sensibility. It is the case of Prokopis Pavlopoulos.

This means a rich mental background. That's where it draws from.

Mr. Pavlopoulos took a risk, deciding to enter the high world of Poetry. Try Impossible. Because otherwise there would be no point in its existence.

Mr. Pavlopoulos has been writing poems since he was a teenager, as he himself explains. It took decades to publish. He wasn't in a hurry. He saw Cavafy waving to him in the background and telling him: "Let's not rush. Violence is a dangerous thing."
