Enthronement of a new Abbot at the Holy Monastery of Agios Nektarios in Roscoe, New Yorktranslated

The Most Reverend Archbishop of America Mr. Elpidophoros presided over the Divine Liturgy on the feast of the Collection of the Holy Relics of Saint Nektarios at the celebratory Holy Monastery in Roscoe, New York. After the dismissal, the Archbishop of America enthroned the Panosiology Archimandrite Mr. Stefanos as Abbot of the Monastery of Agios Nektarios, inaugurating a new chapter for the Monastery and marking an important moment for Orthodox monasticism in the United States.

The Brotherhood of the Holy Monastery in Roscoe last June elected a new Abbot, after the death of the blessed Abbot Elder Joseph.

According to a press release of the Holy Archdiocese of America, following a secret vote, Hieromonk Stefanos (real name Konstantinos Giannakopoulos), brainchild of the late Elder Joseph, was elected new Abbot.

The Archbishop of America Mr. Elpidophoros expressed his joy and wishes to the newly elected Abbot, underlining the importance of continuing the spiritual legacy of his predecessor as well as the blessed Elder Ephraim of Arizona.

Χαίρομαι που ο Στέφανος, πνευματικό παιδί του Γέροντος Ιωσήφ, πήρε τη θέση του. Θυμάμαι πόσο είχε βοηθήσει ο μακαριστός Ηγούμενος όταν πήγαμε με τη γυναίκα μου στο Roscoe πριν χρόνια. Εύχομαι να συνεχίσει με την ίδια απλότητα και προσευχή.

Συμφωνώ, ο Γέροντας Ιωσήφ είχε αυτή την απλότητα που μένει στον άνθρωπο. Και ο Στέφανος τον ήξερε από κοντά, οπότε ελπίζω να κρατήσει την ίδια γραμμή. Εσύ πότε ακριβώς είχες πάει στο Roscoe με τη γυναίκα σου; Ήταν κοντά στην εορτή;

Ja, die Wahl von Archimandrit Stephanos fühlt sich richtig an, weil er direkt vom seligen Gerontas Joseph kommt. Ich habe vor Jahren in Hamburg von ihm gehört, als ein Bekannter aus New York erzählte, wie einfach und ruhig der alte Igumen die Pilger empfangen hat. Hoffentlich bleibt diese ruhige Art in Roscoe erhalten.

Рад за отца Стефана, раз он духовный сын старца Иосифа — это самое главное. Помню, как в 2019-м мы с ребятами из Ярославля заезжали в Roscoe по пути из Нью-Йорка, и старец после службы тоже всех угощал простым кофе без всякой помпы. Интересно, сохранится ли эта же атмосфера теперь.

Ελπίζω και ο νέος Ηγούμενος Στέφανος να κρατήσει το ίδιο πνεύμα, όπως έκανε και ο δικός μας γέροντας στο κήπο μας εδώ στη Λάρισα. Πήγατε άραγε για την πανήγυρη του Αγίου Νεκταρίου;

Da, și eu am fost cu soțul și băiatul la Roscoe acum doi ani, exact de sărbătoarea Sfântului Nectarie. După Liturghie, părintele Iosif ne-a oferit cafea simplă la masă, fără niciun fel de ceremonie, și ne-a întrebat de școală. Sper ca părintele Ștefan, fiind duhovnicesc al lui, să păstreze aceeași liniște și simplitate.
