The festival of the Holy Church of the Dormition of the Virgin Giannitsatranslated

The annual festival of the historic church of the Dormition (Metropolis) of Giannitsa was celebrated with widespread attendance and ecclesiastical dignity, in the context of which a pilgrimage was made to the holy relic of Saint David in Evia.

On the eve of the holiday (Friday 14.8.2026), at 7:00 p.m., the Solemn Vespers was celebrated by the pre-eminent Panosiology Archimandrite Nikodimos Kansizoglou, Synodal Hierarch of the I. Metropolis, who represented Rev. Metropolitan of Edessa, Pelli and Almopia Mr. Ioel and preached the divine word emphasizing in principle that the most difficult sermon is the one that refers to the Virgin Mary, since closeness to Her is necessary. For this reason, he used typical examples from the life of St. Joseph the Hesychast, who was distinguished for his special connection with the Virgin Mary until the end of his life - in fact, She herself warned him about this precisely - and considered the shaking of trust in the Virgin Mary the greatest temptation of his multi-sport ascetic life. Thank God that they brought the relics of St. David from Evia, it always gave me great joy when I heard about him. Archimandrite Nicodemus said beautifully about the sermon about the Mother of God - it's really hard to find words when it comes to Her. I hope that they had a nice celebration in Banja Luka this year.
