16-year Memorial of Rethymno Anthimostranslated

On Sunday morning, August 16, 2026, Rev. Metropolitan of Rethymno and Avlopotamos, Mr. Prodromos officiated during Orthros and celebrated the High Priestly Divine Liturgy at the Holy Theotokos Pilgrimage of Panagia Harakiani, of the Holy Monastery of the Holy Prodromos of Atalis-Bali, on the National Road of Heraklion-Rethymno. During the Divine Liturgy, a Holy Memorial was held for the completion of 16 years since the ecclesiastical death of the blessed Metropolitan of Rethymno and Aulopotamos, Mr. Anthimos (Syrianou).

Aidesimol spoke eloquently about the blessed Pastor of Rethymnon. Protopresbyter Nikolaos Polakis, who served as General Hierarchal Commissioner during the days of the late Hierarch.

Before the Dismissal of the Divine Liturgy, His Eminence spoke with words of praise of honor and respect to his blessed Predecessor and always wished that his imprint and memory would remain eternal and bright, so as to illuminate our paths and our choices.

It was a nice and simple service, just as the Most Reverend Anthimos would have liked. I remembered what father Nikolaos Polakis said, who knew him closely as epitropa. Let us pray to light our way, as Metropolitan Prodromos also said.

It is true that Father Nikolaos Polakis knew Bishop Anthimos well, you could feel it in his words. I was touched by what Metropolitan Prodromos said before the end of the liturgy, about the memory which must remain luminous to guide us. Thank you for this report, it is good to remember these simple and upright pastors.
