"Memory will not turn into silence": 30 years after the murders of Isaac and Solomontranslated

August 10, 2026 · 1 min read

Thirty years after the murders of Tasos Isaac and Solomos Solomos in an intensely emotional event, in Paralimni, the family, the state, the political leadership and hundreds of citizens honored the memory of the two young people, bringing back to the fore the demand for justice and freedom. The event was attended by the President of the Republic Nikos Christodoulidis and other members of the Government, the Speaker of the Parliament, Annita Dimitriou, representatives of political parties, the families of the two heroes, members of the Isaac-Solomos Memorial Initiative and motorcyclists from Cyprus and Greece.

The event was attended by the Metropolitan of Constantia and Famagusta, Mr. Vasileios.

The central point of the evening was the presentation of the new monument of Tasos Isaac and Solomos Solomos in Paralimni. Thirty motorcyclists, as many years since the murders, symbolically carried the flame of memory from the place of sacrifice in Deryneia to the birthplace of the two heroes.

Memory will not turn into silence The speech of Anastasia Isaac, daughter of Tasos Isaac, was particularly moving, who emphasized that she was not at the event just to speak, but also to mourn.

Thirty years is a lifetime for their children, and there is still no justice. I especially remembered the part where Anastasia Isaak said that she came not only to talk, but also to mourn her father. May the Lord give them the strength not to remain silent.
