Ordination of a Deacon in the Holy Metropolis of Monemvasia and Spartatranslated

In the Parish Church of Agios Dimitrios Sykeas, on the morning of Sunday August 9, 2026, the Orthros and the High Priestly Divine Liturgy were celebrated by the preeminent of the Most Reverend Metropolitan of Monemvasia and Sparta Mr. Efstathios and with the participation of several priests from neighboring areas as well as the hierodeacons of the Metropolis.

During the Divine Liturgy, the ordination to the Deacon was held of the monk Porphyrios, originally from Sykea, born Nikolaos Rougas, whose monk's haircut had been performed the previous day in the Holy Monastery of Golas.

In his ordination speech, the new deacon first thanked the All-Good God, who – overlooking his human frailties – deserved him to receive the first degree of priesthood. At the same time, he characterized the priestly ministry as a cross, a sacrifice and a ministry of offering to Christ and fellow human beings. He then expressed grateful thanks to our venerable Pastor for the paternal love, distinction and trust he showed in his person, while wishing him health and a long life, so that he can continue his rich spiritual, charitable and social work without interruption.
