Florinis Irenaios: "The Cross begins where the ego ends"translated

On Monday, September 14, 2026, the feast of the Universal Exaltation of the Holy and Life-giving Cross, the Most Reverend Metropolitan of Floris, Prespa and Eordaia, Mr. Irenaios, went to the celebrating parish of East Iordaia, where he presided over the Orthros and the High Priestly Divine Liturgy. The Eucharistic Gathering was attended by Deputy Mayors of the Municipality of Eordaia, the President of the Local Community of Atanotikos Mr. Antonios Tsakiridis, representatives of the Security Forces, representatives of organizations and associations of the region, the school community of Atanotikos, with teachers, students and a large number of believers from the Parish and the wider area.

Before the end of the Divine Liturgy, the Metropolitan spoke appropriately to the congregation, referring to the Elevation of the Holy and Life-giving Cross. He made a brief reference to the history of the holiday, from the finding of the Holy Cross by Saint Helen and its elevation by the Patriarch of Jerusalem Makarios to its return to Jerusalem by the emperor Heraclius.

He then referred to the message of the Cross for modern man, pointing out that selfishness, infidelity, criticism and indifference...
