The icons speak – The icon of Panagia Dimiovitissatranslated

On the slopes of Taygetos is the historic Holy Monastery of Dimiova, dedicated to the Assumption of the Virgin Mary. Here is treasured the miraculous icon of Panagia Demiovitissa, which for centuries has been one of the most important pilgrimages of Orthodoxy. The icon, which is a work of the 7th century, suffered desecration and was miraculously saved. Click on the image to watch the show

I didn't know the icon dates back to the 7th century. The fact it survived desecration and still draws pilgrims on the slopes of Taygetus is something. Makes me want to look up that documentary they mention.
