Anthimos of Alexandroupolis: The Eucharist as a meeting of man with Godtranslated

On Monday, August 17, 2026, the Most Reverend Metropolitan of Alexandroupolis, Mr. Anthimos, celebrated the High Priestly Divine Liturgy at Panagia Krimniotissa of Samothrace, amid the festive atmosphere of the days following the great feast of the Assumption of the Virgin. In his sermon, His Holiness referred to the Divine Liturgy as the Holy Eucharist, as the meeting of man with God, during which we do not attend only to ask, but primarily to thank Him for everything. He also emphasized God's love and providence in the life of every person, even through events whose meaning we often fail to understand at the time they occur.
He made special reference to the old tradition of the Samothracites, who came to the chapel even on foot from Chora and the villages of the island, spent the night and participated together in the Divine Liturgy. He remembered with emotion those who loved, built, took care of and preserved the little church, as well as Blessed Father Emmanuel Kambouris, who had particularly taken care of the continuation of this liturgical tradition.
