Memorial prayer for the Battle of Oropostranslated

With the appropriate ecclesiastical splendor, the memorial service for the fallen of the historic Battle of Oropos (1829) was held on Saturday, July 4, 2026, in the Metropolitan Church of Agios Andreas on Skala Oropos. The holy memorial service was presided over by His Eminence the Metropolitan of Kifissia, Amarousi, Oropou and Marathon, Mr. Kyrillos, flanked by His Eminence Archimandrite Timon Kortesis (vicar of Chalkoutsi) and the Archpriest Commissioner of Oropou - Kapandriti, Protopresbyter Fr. Antonio Papacharalambous (vicar of the temple).
The "present" at the ceremony was given by the Mayor of Oropou, Mr. Georgios Giasimakis, together with the Municipal Council, members of the Patriotic Club of Descendants of Fighters of 1821, as well as representatives of local bodies and associations.
After the invocation, the stage was moved to the port of Skala Oropos, where a highly evocative night procession unfolded.
Revivalists and members of the local Cultural Associations crossed the beach holding lit torches, paying tribute to the heroes of 1829.
