At the Cernica Monastery in Ilfov county, the opening of the symposium dedicated to the Burnt Rug and Father Andrei Scrima took place on Tuesday.

The inaugural session was preceded by the officiating of the Akathist of the Burning Wick in the "St. Nicholas" Church of the monastic settlement, where clergy, monks, theologians, researchers and people of culture were present.

The Most Reverend Father Timotei Prahoveanul, the Vicar Bishop of the Archdiocese of Bucharest, also participated in the event, who highlighted the personality of Archimandrite Andrei Scrima and his connections with important figures of monasticism and Romanian Orthodox spirituality.

"The first thing I would like to emphasize regarding Father Andrei Scrima would be that of his friendship and love towards the spiritual world. He was a man open to culture, he read a lot. When he entered the Antim community as a brother, he was already a university graduate," said His Eminence.

"Many of the monks at Antim, knowing his preoccupation with the book, with words, knew that listening to the librarian was the most appropriate."
