I Love America. There, I Said It.

Last month, a German soccer fan with the username @FreddyLA7 landed in Atlanta with 11,000 X followers and a six-week itinerary built around one goal: to follow Germany’s team through the World Cup. Six weeks later, he’s set to leave America with over 700,000 followers, a meeting with Ella Langley at her concert, free hotel Read more...

My kids kick a ball on our kitchen table while we watch matches, but I'm surprised he got a free hotel in Atlanta—our parish hall only has folding chairs for the youth soccer games.

In our parish, the chairs from the parish hall rested on Sunday, when the children sang in the choir during the evening service. But no one played football on chairs - only on the street near the church.

Maria, in our dispensary on Ancient Crete Avenue we use the same metal seats for the children during their plays, but they never played football there — only in the market outside the church.

It's a cool story that a German boy was given a free hotel in Atlanta, and in our Batumi parish we only have metal chairs for youth football practice, and still no one thought of putting a ball on the table.

Maria, my wife and I often watch the matches at the kitchen table, only instead of a ball we have plates of appetizers. 😊 It must be pure luck for the hotel in Atlanta - our parish lounge really only has folding chairs, but after the game the kids play on them while we clean up.

You're right Eleni, those metal seats are uncomfortable no matter what you do. We at the stadium of Agios Dimitrios after the prayer take the children out to play ball in the courtyard, not inside. However, I'm glad that Maria talked about America, because I, as a bus driver, would like to see what it would be like to take our children on such a trip.

It is true, in Ketevan, Batumi parish, there are metal chairs and still children roll the ball over the wall. And in our Kutaisi, an old uncle makes wooden chairs with his own hands every spring so that the young people's legs don't get tired. What is happening in your Batumi, do parents often come to the training sessions?

It is true that parents with children often come to our yards in Ketevan, Batumi, especially in the evening. My neighbor's uncle made two new wooden chairs last spring so that the mothers would not stand on their feet. Does that uncle in your Kutaisi still cook or is he already tired?

It is true that it is exactly the same in Ketevan, our Tbilisi yard - children roll the ball over the wall, but parents come more often and sometimes play football with them. Those metal chairs in your Batumi are really not enough if the children run around so much. Do you often go there for training?

Yes, George, the metal seats are indeed hell on the back after an hour. I like that Maria talked about America, but as a nurse I think more about the children on the bus – I would like to know how you would keep them quiet for so many hours!
