Divine Liturgy on the Feast of the Smolensk Icon of the Mother of Godtranslated

On August 10, the Orthodox Church honors the memory of the miraculous Smolensk Icon of the Mother of God, called “Hodegetria,” which means “Guide.” For centuries, believers have turned to the Most Holy Theotokos in front of this image, asking for Her help and intercession.

On the day of the celebration of the Smolensk Icon of the Mother of God, August 10, 2026, the Divine Liturgy at the courtyard of the St. Nicholas Monastery in the agricultural town of Teryukha, near the walls of the church in honor of the Smolensk Icon of the Mother of God, was performed by His Eminence Stefan, Archbishop of Gomel and Zhlobin.

The archpastor was concelebrated by the secretary of the Gomel diocese, Archpriest Georgy Alampiev, the dean of the monasteries of the Gomel diocese, hegumen Theodorit (Zolotarev), the dean of the Gomel district, Archpriest Artemy Krivitsky, the brethren of the monastery in holy orders and the clergy of the diocese.

During the service, Abbess Vera (Afonkina) prayed with the sisters of the Tikhvin Convent.

On this day, believers from surrounding settlements and participants in a family diocesan gathering gathered for the service to share common prayer and ask for the intercession of the Most Holy Theotokos.
