Divine Liturgy on the day of the appearance of the Kazan Icon of the Mother of God in Karpinsktranslated

July 21, 2026 · 1 min read

On July 21, on the day of the celebration of the appearance of the Kazan Icon of the Mother of God, a solemn Divine Liturgy took place in the church in honor of the Kazan Icon of the Mother of God in the city of Karpinsk.

The service was led by Bishop Feognost of Serov and Krasnoturinsky. Concelebrating with His Eminence was the rector of the church, Archpriest Anatoly Alshevsky.

At the end of the Liturgy, a glorification was sung before the venerated image of the Mother of God “Kazan”.

At the end of the service, Bishop Theognost addressed the parishioners with a sermon. In his speech, the archpastor spoke about the history of the Kazan Icon of the Mother of God and about its special significance for the Russian people - the intercession of the Most Holy Theotokos, which is repeatedly revealed at fateful moments in Russian history, and about how faith in Her heavenly protection strengthens the people in trials and inspires them to deeds of love and mercy.

In his sermon, the Bishop paid special attention to the idea that God’s mercy does not come on its own—it is revealed where there is living faith and the desire to live according to the commandments. It’s good that Bishop Theognost said directly: mercy does not come on its own. Just this week our choir sang the troparion of Kazan, and these words in the sermon were very appropriate. And in Karpinsk, by the way, has that revered icon been standing for a long time?

Yes, Victor, these words of the Bishop are really to the point - mercy does not fall from the sky just like that. And the revered icon in Karpinsk, as far as I know, has been in the church for forty years; it was brought from Yekaterinburg during the time of Father Anatoly. What troparion did you sing in the choir - “The Diligent Intercessor” or the main one?

Yes, Gregory, it was “The Diligent Intercessor” that they sang at the end; the voices of our women in the choir this time sounded especially harmonious. And the icon was actually brought under Father Anatoly, I still remember how it was placed in the icon case. I wonder if you yourself were at the service that day or came up later?
