¹ But the souls of the righteous are in the hand of God, and there shall no torment touch them.

² In the sight of the unwise they seemed to die: and their departure is taken for misery,

³ And their going from us to be utter destruction: but they are in peace.

⁴ For though they be punished in the sight of men, yet is their hope full of immortality.

⁵ And having been a little chastised, they shall be greatly rewarded: for God proved them, and found them worthy for himself.

⁶ As gold in the furnace hath he tried them, and received them as a burnt offering.

⁷ And in the time of their visitation they shall shine, and run to and fro like sparks among the stubble.

⁸ They shall judge the nations, and have dominion over the people, and their Lord shall reign for ever.

⁹ They that put their trust in him shall understand the truth: and such as be faithful in love shall abide with him: for grace and mercy is to his saints, and he hath care for his elect.

¹⁵ But the righteous live for evermore; their reward also is with the Lord, and the care of them is with the most High.

¹⁶ Therefore shall they receive a glorious kingdom, and a beautiful crown from the Lord’s hand: for with his right hand shall he cover them, and with his arm shall he protect them.

¹⁷ He shall take to him his jealousy for complete armour, and make the creature his weapon for the revenge of his enemies.

¹⁸ He shall put on righteousness as a breastplate, and true judgment instead of an helmet.

¹⁹ He shall take holiness for an invincible shield.

²⁰ His severe wrath shall he sharpen for a sword, and the world shall fight with him against the unwise.

²¹ Then shall the right aiming thunderbolts go abroad; and from the clouds, as from a well drawn bow, shall they fly to the mark.

²² And hailstones full of wrath shall be cast as out of a stone bow, and the water of the sea shall rage against them, and the floods shall cruelly drown them.

²³ Yea, a mighty wind shall stand up against them, and like a storm shall blow them away: thus iniquity shall lay waste the whole earth, and ill dealing shall overthrow the thrones of the mighty.

¹ Hear therefore, O ye kings, and understand; learn, ye that be judges of the ends of the earth.

² Give ear, ye that rule the people, and glory in the multitude of nations.

³ For power is given you of the Lord, and sovereignty from the Highest, who shall try your works, and search out your counsels.

⁷ But though the righteous be prevented with death, yet shall he be in rest.

⁸ For honourable age is not that which standeth in length of time, nor that is measured by number of years.

⁹ But wisdom is the gray hair unto men, and an unspotted life is old age.

¹⁰ He pleased God, and was beloved of him: so that living among sinners he was translated.

¹¹ Yea speedily was he taken away, lest that wickedness should alter his understanding, or deceit beguile his soul.

¹² For the bewitching of naughtiness doth obscure things that are honest; and the wandering of concupiscence doth undermine the simple mind.

¹³ He, being made perfect in a short time, fulfilled a long time:

¹⁴ For his soul pleased the Lord: therefore hasted he to take him away from among the wicked.

¹⁵ This the people saw, and understood it not, neither laid they up this in their minds, That his grace and mercy is with his saints, and that he hath respect unto his chosen.

¹ The memory of a just man is praised, and the Lord’s blessing is upon his head. Blessed is one who has found wisdom; a mortal who knows understanding. To import her is better than treasures of gold and silver. She is more valuable than precious stones; nothing of value equals her worth. Justice proceeds from her mouth; she bears law and mercy on her tongue. Therefore, my children, listen to me, for I speak weighty things. And blessed is the one who keeps my ways. For my goings out are the goings out of life, and favour is prepared from the Lord. Therefore I exhort you, and utter my voice to the children of humankind. Because I, Wisdom, have prepared counsel, knowledge and understanding. I have called on them. Counsel and sureness are mine; prudence is mine, strength is mine. I love those who are my friends, while those who seek me will find grace. You innocent, then, understand cunning; you untaught, take it to heart. Listen to me, for I will speak weighty things, and I will open right things from my lips. Because my throat will meditate truth; lying lips are abominable before me. All the words of my mouth are with justice, there is nothing crooked in them nor twisted. They are all straight for those who understand, and right for those who find knowledge. For I teach you what is true, that your hope may be in the Lord and that you may be filled with spirit.

³¹ La boca del justo producirá sabiduría: Mas la lengua perversa será cortada.

³² Los labios del justo conocerán lo que agrada: Mas la boca de los impíos habla perversidades.

¹ EL peso falso abominación es á Jehová: Mas la pesa cabal le agrada.

² Cuando viene la soberbia, viene también la deshonra: Mas con los humildes es la sabiduría.

³ La integridad de los rectos los encaminará: Mas destruirá á los pecadores la perversidad de ellos.

⁴ No aprovecharán las riquezas en el día de la ira: Mas la justicia librará de muerte.

⁵ La justicia del perfecto enderezará su camino: mas el impío por su impiedad caerá.

⁶ La justicia de los rectos los librará: Mas los pecadores en su pecado serán presos.

⁷ Cuando muere el hombre impío, perece su esperanza; Y la espectativa de los malos perecerá.

⁸ El justo es librado de la tribulación: Mas el impío viene en lugar suyo.

⁹ El hipócrita con la boca daña á su prójimo: Mas los justos son librados con la sabiduría.

¹⁰ En el bien de los justos la ciudad se alegra: Mas cuando los impíos perecen, hay fiestas.

¹¹ Por la bendición de los rectos la ciudad será engrandecida: Mas por la boca de los impíos ella será trastornada.

¹² El que carece de entendimiento, menosprecia á su prójimo: Mas el hombre prudente calla.

²⁷ Todas las cosas me son entregadas de mi Padre: y nadie conoció al Hijo, sino el Padre; ni al Padre conoció alguno, sino el Hijo, y aquel á quien el Hijo lo quisiere revelar.

²⁸ Venid á mí todos los que estáis trabajados y cargados, que yo os haré descansar.

²⁹ Llevad mi yugo sobre vosotros, y aprended de mí, que soy manso y humilde de corazón; y hallaréis descanso para vuestras almas.

³⁰ Porque mi yugo es fácil, y ligera mi carga.

¹ ¿IGNORAIS, hermanos, (porque hablo con los que saben la ley) que la ley se enseñorea del hombre entre tanto que vive?

² Porque la mujer que está sujeta á marido, mientras el marido vive está obligada á la ley; mas muerto el marido, libre es de la ley del marido.

³ Así que, viviendo el marido, se llamará adúltera si fuere de otro varón; mas si su marido muriere, es libre de la ley; de tal manera que no será adúltera si fuere de otro marido.

⁴ Así también vosotros, hermanos míos, estáis muertos á la ley por el cuerpo de Cristo, para que seáis de otro, á saber, del que resucitó de los muertos, á fin de que fructifiquemos á Dios.

⁵ Porque mientras estábamos en la carne, los afectos de los pecados que eran por la ley, obraban en nuestros miembros fructificando para muerte.

⁶ Mas ahora estamos libres de la ley, habiendo muerto á aquella en la cual estábamos detenidos, para que sirvamos en novedad de espíritu, y no en vejez de letra.

⁷ ¿Qué pues diremos? ¿La ley es pecado? En ninguna manera. Empero yo no conocí el pecado sino por la ley: porque tampoco conociera la concupiscencia, si la ley no dijera: No codiciarás.

⁸ Mas el pecado, tomando ocasión, obró en mí por el mandamiento toda concupiscencia: porque sin la ley el pecado está muerto.

⁹ Así que, yo sin la ley vivía por algún tiempo: mas venido el mandamiento, el pecado revivió, y yo morí.

¹⁰ Y hallé que el mandamiento, á intimado para vida, para mí era mortal:

¹¹ Porque el pecado, tomando ocasión, me engañó por el mandamiento, y por él me mató.

¹² De manera que la ley á la verdad es santa, y el mandamiento santo, y justo, y bueno.

¹³ ¿Luego lo que es bueno, á mí me es hecho muerte? No; sino que el pecado, para mostrarse pecado, por lo bueno me obró la muerte, haciéndose pecado sobremanera pecante por el mandamiento.

²² Mas el fruto del Espíritu es: caridad, gozo, paz, tolerancia, benignidad, bondad, fe,

²³ Mansedumbre, templanza: contra tales cosas no hay ley.

²⁴ Porque los que son de Cristo, han crucificado la carne con los afectos y concupiscencias.

²⁵ Si vivimos en el Espíritu, andemos también en el Espíritu.

²⁶ No seamos codiciosos de vana gloria, irritando los unos á los otros, envidiándose los unos á los otros.

¹ HERMANOS, si alguno fuere tomado en alguna falta, vosotros que sois espirituales, restaurad al tal con el espíritu de mansedumbre; considerándote á ti mismo, porque tú no seas también tentado.

² Sobrellevad los unos las cargas de los otros; y cumplid así la ley de Cristo.

³⁶ Y viendo las gentes, tuvo compasión de ellas; porque estaban derramadas y esparcidas como ovejas que no tienen pastor.

³⁷ Entonces dice á sus discípulos: A la verdad la mies es mucha, mas los obreros pocos.

³⁸ Rogad, pues, al Señor de la mies, que envíe obreros á su mies.

¹ ENTONCES llamando á sus doce discípulos, les dió potestad contra los espíritus inmundos, para que los echasen fuera, y sanasen toda enfermedad y toda dolencia.

² Y los nombres de los doce apóstoles son estos: el primero, Simón, que es dicho Pedro, y Andrés su hermano; Jacobo, hijo de Zebedeo, y Juan su hermano;

³ Felipe, y Bartolomé; Tomás, y Mateo el publicano; Jacobo hijo de Alfeo, y Lebeo, por sobrenombre Tadeo;

⁴ Simón el Cananita y Judas Iscariote, que también le entregó.

⁵ á estos doce envió Jesús, á los cuales dió mandamiento, diciendo: Por el camino de los Gentiles no iréis, y en ciudad de Samaritanos no entréis;

⁶ Mas id antes á las ovejas perdidas de la casa de Israel.

⁷ Y yendo, predicad, diciendo: El reino de los cielos se ha acercado.

⁸ Sanad enfermos, limpiad leprosos, resucitad muertos, echad fuera demonios: de gracia recibisteis, dad de gracia.

¹⁷ Y descendió con ellos, y se paró en un lugar llano, y la compañía de sus discípulos, y una grande multitud de pueblo de toda Judea y de Jerusalem, y de la costa de Tiro y de Sidón, que habían venido á oirle, y para ser sanados de sus enfermedades;

¹⁸ Y los que habían sido atormentados de espíritus inmundos: y estaban curados.

¹⁹ Y toda la gente procuraba tocarle; porque salía de él virtud, y sanaba á todos.

²⁰ Y alzando él los ojos á sus discípulos, decía: Bienaventurados vosotros los pobres; porque vuestro es el reino de Dios.

²¹ Bienaventurados los que ahora tenéis hambre; porque seréis saciados. Bienaventurados los que ahora lloráis, porque reiréis.

²² Bienaventurados seréis, cuando los hombres os aborrecieren, y cuando os apartaren de sí, y os denostaren, y desecharen vuestro nombre como malo, por el Hijo del hombre.

²³ Gozaos en aquel día, y alegraos; porque he aquí vuestro galardón es grande en los cielos; porque así hacían sus padres á los profetas.

¹ Y DESPUÉS de seis días, Jesús toma á Pedro, y á Jacobo, y á Juan su hermano, y los lleva aparte á un monte alto:

² Y se transfiguró delante de ellos; y resplandeció su rostro como el sol, y sus vestidos fueron blancos como la luz.

³ Y he aquí les aparecieron Moisés y Elías, hablando con él.

⁴ Y respondiendo Pedro, dijo á Jesús: Señor, bien es que nos quedemos aquí: si quieres, hagamos aquí tres pabellones: para ti uno, y para Moisés otro, y otro para Elías.

⁵ Y estando aún él hablando, he aquí una nube de luz que los cubrió; y he aquí una voz de la nube, que dijo: Este es mi Hijo amado, en el cual tomo contentamiento: á él oíd.

⁶ Y oyendo esto los discípulos, cayeron sobre sus rostros, y temieron en gran manera.

⁷ Entonces Jesús llegando, los tocó, y dijo: Levantaos, y no temáis.

⁸ Y alzando ellos sus ojos, á nadie vieron, sino á solo Jesús.

⁹ Y como descendieron del monte, les mandó Jesús, diciendo: No digáis á nadie la visión, hasta que el Hijo del hombre resucite de los muertos.

¹⁰ Entonces sus discípulos le preguntaron, diciendo: ¿Por qué dicen pues los escribas que es menester que Elías venga primero?

¹¹ Y respondiendo Jesús, les dijo: á la verdad, Elías vendrá primero, y restituirá todas las cosas.

¹² Mas os digo, que ya vino Elías, y no le conocieron; antes hicieron en él todo lo que quisieron: así también el Hijo del hombre padecerá de ellos.

¹³ Los discípulos entonces entendieron, que les habló de Juan el Bautista.

¹⁴ Y como ellos llegaron al gentío, vino á él un hombre hincándosele de rodillas,

¹⁵ Y diciendo: Señor, ten misericordia de mi hijo, que es lunático, y padece malamente; porque muchas veces cae en el fuego, y muchas en el agua.

¹⁶ Y le he presentado á tus discípulos, y no le han podido sanar.

¹⁷ Y respondiendo Jesús, dijo: ¡Oh generación infiel y torcida! ¿hasta cuándo tengo de estar con vosotros? ¿hasta cuándo os tengo de sufrir? traédmele acá.

¹⁸ Y Jesús le reprendió, y salió el demonio de él; y el mozo fué sano desde aquella hora.

¹⁹ Entonces, llegándose los discípulos á Jesús, aparte, dijeron: ¿Por qué nosotros no lo pudimos echar fuera?

²⁰ Y Jesús les dijo: Por vuestra incredulidad; porque de cierto os digo, que si tuviereis fe como un grano de mostaza, diréis á este monte: Pásate de aquí allá: y se pasará: y nada os será imposible.

²¹ Mas este linaje no sale sino por oración y ayuno.

²² Y estando ellos en Galilea, Jesús les dijo: El Hijo del hombre será entregado en manos de hombres,

²³ Y le matarán; mas al tercer día resucitará. Y ellos se entristecieron en gran manera.

²⁴ Y como llegaron á Capernaum, vinieron á Pedro los que cobraban las dos dracmas, y dijeron: ¿Vuestro Maestro no paga las dos dracmas?

²⁵ El dice: Sí. Y entrando él en casa, Jesús le habló antes, diciendo: ¿Qué te parece, Simón? Los reyes de la tierra, ¿de quién cobran los tributos ó el censo? ¿de sus hijos ó de los extraños?

²⁶ Pedro le dice: De los extraños. Jesús le dijo: Luego los hijos son francos.

²⁷ Mas porque no los escandalicemos, ve á la mar, y echa el anzuelo, y el primer pez que viniere, tómalo, y abierta su boca, hallarás un estatero: tómalo, y dáselo por mí y por ti.
