Danube Delta Biosphere Reserve Day, marked in Tulcea by a call to protect natural heritagetranslated

Authorities, researchers, representatives of environmental institutions and civil society marked the Danube Delta Biosphere Reserve Day in Tulcea on Tuesday. On this occasion, the participants highlighted the importance of conserving one of the most valuable ecosystems in Europe and the role of collaboration between institutions and local communities in protecting natural heritage.

The event was organized by the Danube Delta National Research-Development Institute and the Administration of the Danube Delta Biosphere Reserve, 36 years after the Danube Delta was included in the international network of biosphere reserves within the UNESCO "Man and Biosphere" program.

During the meeting, the participants emphasized that protecting the Danube Delta requires a joint effort of the authorities, researchers, non-governmental organizations and local communities. At the same time, research projects and initiatives dedicated to biodiversity conservation and sustainable development of the region were presented.

It’s good that local communities got involved; without them, no projects would take root. Here in Tula we also try to protect the nature around us, but the Delta is a treasure, 580 thousand hectares, it’s scary to imagine. I wonder how exactly local residents help in these studies?

Yes, local residents are the key, without them everything will remain on paper. When fishing, we also often talk to those who are on the water every day, they immediately see where the fish are spawning or the reeds have begun to dry. I wonder if in Delta projects, fishermen and boaters also participate in data collection or only in conservation?
