The national day of the only rescue service in the mountain area: Salvamont Romania urges responsibilitytranslated

On August 1, the National Day of Salvamont Romania is marked, an occasion of gratitude towards the women and men who watch over, often in extreme conditions, the safety of those who love the mountain.

The date does not mark a founding moment in the history of Salvamont, but the beginning of the most demanding period of the year for the activity of mountain rescuers, being the period with the highest number of accidents and interventions.

For this reason, the first day of the month was chosen as the National Day of Salvamont Romania, a holiday officially established by law in 2024, and for over 25 years the month of August has been considered the "Month of responsibility on the mountain - Salvamont Romania Month".

Since the beginning of the 20th century, in the localities at the foot of the Bucegi and Făgăraș Mountains – Brașov, Sinaia, Sibiu and Bușteni – the first groups of alpine rescuers were formed, made up of climbers, hunters and guides.
