WCC central committee moderator meets with speaker of National Assembly of South Korea Cho Jeong-sik

World Council of Churches (WCC) moderator of the central committee Rev. Prof. Dr Heinrich Bedford-Strohm and Rev. Prof. Dr Meehyun Chung, moderator of the WCC Commission on Ecumenical Education and Formation, met with the speaker of National Assembly of South Korea Cho Jeong-sik.

"My meeting with the speaker of the Korean National Assembly Cho Jeong-sik was characterized by a very cordial exchange,” said Bedford-Strohm. “ The speaker emphasized the important role of the WCC in the efforts for peace on the Korean Peninsula.”

Bedford-Strohm said that, in the meeting, he expressed his conviction that, despite the difficult situation now, hope for a reunification of Korea must never be given up.

“ As a German, I have spent the first 30 years of my life at a barbed wire border that separated my country in two parts,” he said. “ I would have never dared to hope for a reunification in my lifetime.”
