Secondary school No. 2 hosted a historical and educational event dedicated to the 215th anniversary of the Russian Victory over Napoleon’s army in the Patriotic War of 1812. The meeting was organized by the Republican Youth Center. The main report was given by Candidate of Medical Sciences, local historian, public figure and publicist Bembya Dmitrievich Fedorov. In his presentation, he spoke about the participation of Kalmyks and Cossacks in the War of 1812, their contribution to the defense of the Fatherland, as well as the names of Kalmyk warriors immortalized in the Cathedral of Christ the Savior and in the chapel of Sergius of Radonezh in Elista, consecrated by Patriarch Alexy II of Moscow and All Rus'. From the Elista and Kalmyk diocese, the clergyman of the Kazan Cathedral in the city of Elista, Archpriest Anthony Zimovets, took part in the event. The priest spoke about the attitude of the Church towards the defenders of the Fatherland, about the spiritual dimension of military service and about the recognition of every person for work and feat for the sake of their neighbors.
