Sounds like a solid seminar. Did they cover any specific teaching methods for the younger grades that folks from other regions found useful? Our parish school could probably learn a thing or two from what they did in Perm.

Yeah, they did a good session on the “living word” method for the little ones — lots of repetition through short prayers and saints’ lives instead of worksheets. A couple teachers from Yekaterinburg said it cut down on fidgeting in the first two grades. Have you tried anything like that at your parish school?

Interesting this "living word" with prayers and lives of saints instead of worksheets. In our catecheticals here in Thessaloniki, young children get bored quickly with cards, so maybe we should try something similar. Who presented it specifically?

Interesting about this "living word" with short prayers and lives of saints instead of sheets. In our Sunday school in Tarnovo, the children really get distracted quickly with the paper, especially the first graders. Who exactly presented it - someone from Perm or from Yekaterinburg?

I remember trying something similar with the little ones at our parish here in Toronto a few years back, using short troparia instead of printed sheets, and it did calm them down noticeably. The Perm folks also shared a simple rhythm game with the Jesus Prayer that the younger grades picked up fast. Have you found that repetition works better with your group than coloring pages?

Marianna, I also think that the "living word" with short prayers and lives sounds more useful than the sheets - my son in Sunday school here in Burgas is quickly starting to crumple the paper. It was introduced by a teacher from Perm, as far as I understood from the photos. And you in Tarnovo, have you tried something similar with the first graders?
