On October 11, 2026, the 19th week after Pentecost, the day of remembrance of the Venerable Schemamonk Cyril and Schemanun Maria (c. 1337), parents of the Venerable Sergius of Radonezh, Archbishop Varlaam of Makhachkala and Derbent celebrated the Divine Liturgy in the Assumption Cathedral of the capital of Dagestan.
The night before, the ruling bishop led an all-night vigil in the Assumption Cathedral.
His Eminence was served by the clergy of the cathedral church.
After reading the Gospel, the bishop addressed those gathered with an archpastoral word.
At the special litany, special petitions were offered. Archbishop Varlaam read a prayer for Holy Russia, performed in all churches of the Russian Orthodox Church with the blessing of His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia.
The sermon before communion was delivered by the rector of the cathedral church, Priest Pavel Kalikin.
At the end of the service, Archbishop Varlaam held an evangelical conversation with the parishioners at the diocesan spiritual and educational center on the territory of the Assumption Cathedral.
