A meeting with students entitled “The Church during the War Years” was held at the State Educational Institution “Poroslyanskaya Secondary School”translated

On August 12, 2026, at the Novozasimovichi SDK, an event was held for students of the State Educational Institution “Poroslyanskaya Secondary School” entitled: “The Church during the war years.” The event was attended by the rector of the Church of the Icon of the Mother of God “Unexpected Joy” in the village of Novye Zasimovichi, Priest Sergius Sysolyatin and history teacher Dron Yuri Nikolaevich.
Father Sergius spoke about the role of the Russian Orthodox Church during the Great Patriotic War. The guys heard about the contribution of clergy and laity to the common Victory: organizing fundraising for equipment, helping the wounded in hospitals and supporting the spirit of the defenders of the Fatherland. He emphasized that Christianity carried a charge of great moral strength. Already on June 22, 1941, the Patriarchal Locum Tenens Metropolitan Sergius of Stragorodsky made an appeal to believers, calling on them to stand up for the defense of the Motherland with arms in hand and take part in raising funds for the defense fund.
Dron Yu.N told the meeting participants about the priest John Navrotsky, who served in the town of Ruzhany, who during the Great Patriotic War did everything possible to prevent the residents of Ruzhany from being shot by the Germans, saving dozens of Red Army soldiers and parishioners from death.
