Metropolitan of Piraeus: "The Virgin Mary is the center of the life of the Church"translated

Yesterday, Wednesday, August 12, 2026, the Most Reverend Metropolitan of Piraeus, Mr. Seraphim, officiated at the Vespers and Prayer Rule to the Blessed Virgin held at the Holy Church of Agios Nikolaos, co-patron of Piraeus, who also preached the Divine Word. His Eminence, first of all, referred to the Holy Icon of the Virgin Mary called "Paleologina", a holy replica and copy of which is kept in the Church and its history as well as the great miracle of preserving the original icon invulnerable and intact from the fire that broke out in 1762 and destroyed the Catholic Church of the Holy Monastery of St. Gregory Agios Conditions where it was located.

His Eminence also referred to the finding of the peripyst and perionymous icon of the Virgin Mary "Rodon the Amaranth", the only icon in the whole of Orthodoxy, in the rocks of Piraeus in 1895 and the great miracle that was performed, the cure of the deadly infectious diseases of smallpox and cholera which had been brought by the French sailors whose ships had docked and were sailing in the port of Piraeus.
